Yes it was a bit twitchy in there even with the lockouts....fortunately I was an apprentice instrument tech on rotation. Quite interesting being with different trades. Wasn't seconded to joiners and plumbers though. Boilerhouse was like a huge adventure playgroundWe had the same system in the substations at Longbridge, first thing you did was go into the bottle room and mechanically lockout the banks of CO2 cylinders before going into the main switch room, one day a guy who had only been half listening went in and knew he had to make the system safe so pressed the button marked "discharge"![]()
Switchgear made my mind up not to be an electrician....... only later in life trained up on 6.6KV gear (10,000BHP) as a side line.
Preferred to be only as close as the DCS was to the gear.
