Common on boats and even under car bonnets.
It is for spot fire fighting - like small boat engine rooms etc - although they could be used for specific bits of machinery etc.

What about if you had one in [say] the shed and we had another spell of really hot weather, would it go off?

But with inert gas into say a boat engine compartment, the space needs to be sealed to maintain the inergen with in the space. With most boats it would end in the bilges very quickly.just lie the calor gas if it leaks, and stays there!
With halon they used to fan test spaces, and block leakage areas with expanding foam etc. With co2 you can allow for leakage areas, according to the british standards, but as you need roughly 43% by volume (halon 1301 ..5% by volume) a fair bit, that can be compensated for, forexample an engine room with a vent left open.

I doubt it. It says set to trigger at 79C. Engine compartments get pretty warm.

I've got one of those in my vw bay engine compartment. Campers engine bays are a somewhat sealed compartment. Admittedly they need a intake for the air but other than that it's a closed compartment.
Fingers crossed I will never find out if it works
