Tonight I was given some Fincord M rods of unknown age/history, I'm 99% sure they were baked before I got hold of them.
So, a quick play to see how I got on with them compared to the "Super 6" eBay specials I normally use.
Disclaimer: I am not a very good welder.
The above welds are on 3mm steel plate, using a Lidl buzzbox at... around 75Aish.
My first impression is that the Fincord rods are probably more consistent - of the 3 I used, all would arc up and weld fairly easily. I had no issues with the first Super 6 rod, couldn't strike an arc with the second at all - it'd only stick and the third was ok after some difficulty getting it to strike the first time.
Chipping off the slag left behind by the Super 6 rods seemed a bit easier than the Fincords, but it wasn't a huge difference either way.
The beads I left with the Fincord rods don't look as good as the ones I left with the Super 6 rods (to me), but that might be because I was still getting into the swing of it. I would've liked to do another plate with the Fincords afterwards, but the above was all I did before the welder overheated and I called it a night.
Will post another picture when I've had another play tomorrow.
