Finally removing last of the big trees around my house

Another load away to the dump today and probably only 2 more runs left until all the old tree branches are gone.

I also picked up the 4no new feature trees this morning. There will be laurel hedge kept trimmed tight along the fence and then these small ornamental trees in front.

Some weeks later I am finally at the end of this project now. 19 trailer loads to the dump. Unexpected digging required all along it too in order to remove decades of leaves and litter all compacted. But getting there now. Out of shot but all 4x new trees are planted too.



There are 2x new apple trees, I am excited to see if they produce anything next year but I have heard they normally don't for a few years when they are young saplings?

I am also debating whether to wild flower seed this area or grass it and get a small robotic mower. It is along the back of my house which is all tarmac besides front garden areas so this is somewhat isolated but I would like to see growth VS gravel or tree bark.

A wild flower bed would really soften the hard landscaping if you don't mind not having instant results and don't mind maintaining it.

Conifers are bad news, after a few years they end up with nothing in the way of screen lower down.

i have them 7 foot high about 20 meters long to keep nosey sods looking in garden from railway station . keep them trimmed twice a year and been there now for 30 years and there right to the deck

I don’t doubt they can be kept as a hedge but it’s not normally what happens, they normally get left for years then hacked to death, after that they never fully recover. You can hack away at a Thuja as in strip it back to a pole and it will come back.

The new trees survived winter and most of them flowered well. I hadn't considered that apple trees also flower in spring They are bringing plenty of bees and insects around which is nice to see



Today I added recycled flower pots as strimmer protection to the tree trunks and extended the irrigation system to capture each of the trees.

I never did get a stump grinder hired last year. I may try to get one this summer and level this portion of ground ready to sow out in grass seed and maybe get a robot mower for it.

Used stump grinders a fair bit. I'd instead suggest digging around and pulling them out if small, much more complete job.
SG hire is not expensive and I have a few larger ones to do this weekend for one of my friends.

If you do, its greatly worth hiring a 400cc+ model that pivots around, seperate to the wheels. A 200cc that needs to be constantly fed jn, is slow hard work.
