Finally picked up...

Picked up a TIG addon box today on my travels before meeting up with GavUK and Woz to say hi and drop off some homebrew, just looking for extra info on it before I try the "trial and error route"



It's a DynaTIG model X-3...

I can work out that the two input cables on te front goto the welder and of the two large knobs on the front the one on the left is labeled "electrode" and the one on the right is "work"..

The TIG torch had a copper bracket/bar fitted to one of the water cooler cables with a conductive outer to go on the electrode point and I assume the earth clamp goes to the work point...

Just want to know if anyone else has anymore info before I get some argon and go "silly"

Fraid not, other than for aligning the spark gap to 0.010", oh and "blowing the dust out every 6 months" hehe

Someone has put an amphenol socket on the front panel would want to sus that out first!

It's connected to the torch, as an on/off, going to take it apart to clean so will try to trace out all the wires and links inside it...

Has had a gas solenoid added too at some point, think this was some sort of HF addon for stick to start with and has been modified to suit TIG for AC at a later date...



Edit: Had a look at the inner workings and there's a spark gap unit in the centre thats good, a HV transformer with a 3500V secondary 120VA output and what looks like a HF coil...
Theres a variable resistor that sets the intensity of the HF and a 110V gas solenoid rigged into the torch switch connector on the front...

The HV transformer leads are aging a bit, but a new one should be quite easy to get hold of at that output rating if really necessary

For it's age it's in really good condition, quite a nice easy job to upgrade it in the future if I really need to

its a unit for converting an AC MMA into TIG Have you fired it up yet?

Not yet, I'll be giving it a go tomorrow though to see how the HF behaves...

I need some Argon desperately and need Chrissi to get in touch!!!

Looks like you would need a separate 115v ac supply for the control side, does your machine have this?

I've got a 110v transformer, similar to the one it was used with...

You might be able to gather some info from the Miller welders web site.
Their HF series of manuals may have something similar.
