Big companies shipping full loads can cope. £200 paperwork fees for 26 pallets is fine. But the same fee applies for someone sending just 1 pallet

I used to send a stove to France at least once a month, and it was increasing. It was no different to sending one to Newcastle. Make box, put stove in box, put address into courier, pay the money, print the label, stick on box and leave outside for courier, same for any address in UK or EU. Brexit hasn't made it harder, it has killed it completely. It's just not worth the time, cost and risk involved.Brilliant thanks.

Palletways alone used to ship 600 pallets a night into their Paris hub.
It is now down to 30
That is all smaller British businesses who have given up due to cost and complexity!

Tell your Irish customer to open an account with AddressPal, which is run by Irish P.O. to enable quick and easy forwarding of mail.
We are great at sending pallets to Northern Ireland. Do quite a few.

That is an unimaginable amount of lost trade. I never advertised in France, the orders came from people specifically looking for the kind of things I make and finding me online. I could only produce a limited quantity due to the health problems our brilliant NHS IS now sorting out, but if I was fit and able, I could easily have generated many times the amount of business I was doing, like three or four stoves a week instead of one a month and would probably have ended up paying someone to produce still more. And I'm just one old bloke in a shed. There must be tens of thousands of small businesses who were doing twenty times more than me and it's gone. But hang on here now, stop blaming Brexit and start looking at the real culprit, the EU. And given this is wholly political, why is it even being allowed on this forum? (I kind of know the answer, it's slanted one way, again...Palletways alone used to ship 600 pallets a night into their Paris hub.

I didn't mention brexit. It's a simple statement of facts. I used to export to France and now it's not possible. Fizzy is providing data that demonstrates I'm in the same situation as thousands of other small businesses. If you think it's because of the EU, that's an opinion, and could be considered political. I'd rather avoid that discussion as it won't achieve anything except getting the thread locked, but anyone is free to draw their own conclusions.
I agree with @julianthegypsy - export is prohibiting business to the EU regardless of where faults lie. I am all for anything that can improve trade- although we are probably below a threshold that can be assisted by @fizzy and his AI.

There were 84 million customs declarations done in the UK last year. I would be very happy with even 0.1%

Export is prohibiting nothing! Import to the EU is. I'm sorry but that is a fact. If the operators in this contract were behaving in identical fashion everything would be ok, but they are not.I agree with @julianthegypsy - export is prohibiting business to the EU regardless of where faults lie. Imports into the EU are the same for any country that's doesnt belong. Same paperwork needed for a Japanese company, a US company or a British one. We are not treated any differently.

The truth is both. There used to be a bi-lateral agreement that made it easy. *WE* chose to tear it up. No point trying to blame 'them'. OUR actions. Our consequences to live with.
