So after carrying out some mods on my old Cosmo 130 (thanks to a thread on this site) I have finally got round to doing some practicing on a now spare car door courtesy of the Mrs poor spacial awareness.
0.8 flux core on lowest setting.
My thoughts are:
1. I think I should have spent a bit more time tacking it in place before I started trying to weld it in.
2. I blew through a few times, allowing more stick out seemed to help, I think more practice with timing my stitches will improve this.
3. 0.6 wire would be a better choice.
4. I am struggling to see any weld pool. I think this because it’s thin metal so the pool is very small and using flux core also makes it more difficult to see the weld pool.
5. Using solid core with gas would help with blow through and weld pool visibility.
I would appreciate any comments on my welding and my thoughts on how to make improvements.
Thanks.
