Final Decision Point

Hi,

After 20+ years of using a SIP150T MIG, I’ve reached the time to replace it and have a choice of two, but which one to go for?
The two contenders are R-Tech MIG180 and GYS Smartmig 152. Both seem to be similar price.

As I just want it for MIG on steel 1.5 to 3mm thick I reckon either would do but does the GYS suffer from having the controls too simplified? Is the R-Tech over the top for what I’m doing?

Thoughts please, particularly if you have experience of the GYS (doesn’t seem to get mentioned much)

I don’t know if zita the same welder but a mate has a synergic gys at his garage and I found it very nice to weld with !

The wire feed is out of control. I can get the parts to fix it but they will take a few weeks. I’m impatient to get a job done so figure it’s time to buy new and sell the SIP after it’s fixed.

I had doubts about the GYS so will rule that out.
However, I can now buy 5he Lincoln Bester 200-S cheap locally…. This or the R-Tech?

Just to cause confusion I have a gys 162, extremely reliable, works well.. the limiting factor is definitely me...
I'd consider a newer lighter machine as I struggle for space.. if weight isn't an issue then it's great

Thanks for your input, I think I’ll look at this differently:-
I’m confident the general quality and features of modern inverter machines will be better than a 25 year old transformer SIP, I bet there’s no such thing as a “bad” welder amongst those I’ve considered! Therefore anything I buy will be better than I had before so as long as I only buy one (and don’t try any others) I will have the best machine I’ve tried, so will be happy! Just to be on the safe side, maybe I’ll go for the one with the longest warranty.

5 years warranty on the R-tech.

Quick update on R-tech as I used to sing their praises when they were getting unfair comments on here.
I have nothing to do with R-tech just 3 of their machines. A normalcustomersk . I used to know the staff by name but not for a long time now.
Anyway a guy called Ben who does not know me from Adam was really helpful as my old mig had an accident and was dropped leaving the case damaged and a broken handle.
The parts are no longer available (cases) but he managed to source me one. I was to say the least . Very impressed again.

Your right... I had a sip mig from that era... Light and day difference between that and the guys... You may be right about an inverter... I suspect I'll find out sometime soon

I've got a GYS Easymig 140 and it's been great. It also replaced a crappy SIP Migmate.

Had two rtech 180s, sold the first one as i wasn't using it as much as I wanted, regretted it that much I bought another lol.
Their after sales service is exceptional, so ended up buy the ac/dc 161 tig and the 130 amp mma as well, had the dc tig as well but my m8 bought that
