In mixed ac I was about to ask Gys if the ac part of it was adjustable just like a normal ac.
So it's not.

I’m not sure if the ac part is adjustable. I’d imagine it is on most sets offering the feature. This is why I say normal balance and frequency because you have a standard ac process but it’s fluctuating with dc negative which would normally be used on steel and stainless etc. It’s that fluctuation between the two I personally cannot get used to

You are right. I've never seen a tig in real life.
I only use mma machines.
I was thinking of where I could try one out. Not sure I can do that out here.
Not sure it would help me out in this matter. I would need to give it some time to get some feeling for it. I dont have any relation where I could do that.

Now I'm back at a lincoln v205t and a migatronic pilot 200.

The lincoln have better specs and it's a bit more powerful. 200 vs 180.
The migatronic can do pulse during ac and it looks like the linkoln also can do that. I've just emailed lincoln to be sure.
The lincolns torch connection leads the gas through it so there is no separate gas output.
One would need an adapter to use normal stuff. Not a big deal.

I'm getting prices tomorrow probably.

Hi,
maybe a Stel 221 would be another option.
You can buy that in Germany for about 2k € brandnew without tax.
I would prefer that one over the selco made machines.
Sold in the us labeled HTP and has a great reputation here as well.
The Selco I worked with had a very noisy fan, the Lincoln 270tp as well.

The Stel has not just Ac balance for the time, but also for the current like the big Miller dynastys. That might be a useful feature sometimes.

If I go for a new one, stel might be an option.

The migatronic pilot will probably be the machine for me. Think the price will be much better than the lincoln because it's 10 years older.
Tha manual says the migatronic needs a 25A fuse. 35A if it's an automatic fuse. That seems very high for a 180A machine?
It's for 230V but I wonder if it's a mix up in the manual with a 110V machine?

Lincoln answered me and said that in the manual it is written that you should turn pulsing of when using high frequency ac and that you can't pulse in high frequency mode.
I can't find any of that in the manual and I am waiting for a photo of the machine sticker. Then I can be sure I have the right manual.
I don't want to bother lincoln again until I have the machine code number.

If ac frequency is set to 100hz and pulse frequency is set to 100hz I guess it can't be usefull. You can't predict what will happen.
But a low pulse frequency in ac mode must be a good thing? Instead of doing a pulse with the pedal. Using the pedal to adjust the top current in the pulse.
Again: I haven't even seen a tig in real life, but a machine that can do pulse in ac mode seems like a good idea.
Maybe a preset pulse just mess things up in ac mode.

Without looking I'd say that migatronic Is a transformer machine and not an inverter.
A 180 A inverter would run on 10-13A fuse @ 230V.

Only use I've had with pulse on AC is to make a poor weld look good but that can be made with manual pulsing using either pedal or torch switch.

The manual says it's an inverter. IF I got the right manual....
I probably do. Not totally sure!

One thing that is strange about it is that a square waveform is not mentioned at all.

There is no good reviews about the migatronic pilot 200 ac/dc.
They were built in france and that company is no more if I understand the French correct.
A couple broke in UK and they had to be sent to Denmark to be repaired.
It was inclined that the pilot wasn't as good as their pi models.
Migatronic doesn't even mention pilot 200 on ther web. No manual. Nothing.
That's not good.

I don’t think you are making this easy on yourself
You’ve been doing lots of webby research which can be useful to find out some information but it can also be really bad because there is awful lot of crap spouted on about tig welders and yes there is plenty of it among threads on here too.
Pedal pulsing/slow pulses on ac. Total nonsense and absolutely useless. Pulse on ac of any speed is something I’m yet to see or hear a decent argument to justify its existence. Going over welds to make them look good isn’t one because particularly on aluminium it does more harm than good.
Pulse on dc is useful in certain case scenarios but not something you need to achieve quality welding on all materials, joints and thicknesses.
By continually researching the bragging stats and owners reviews on tig sets you’ll fall into the trap believing you need all these features, waves, pulses, wireless pedals, tig pens and a size 16 Pyrex cup.
There are some fantastic welders out there and the ones you’ve selected are of good quality but my short list would be different to yours. You need to avoid the little numbers in boxes and at least see them in action. Even a newbie can establish the difference between a quality ac stable arc and a flustery arc that’s struggling to stay put. Get them demo’d for you at 10amps on ac, 2.4 tungsten. If they want the sale they will do this. Only the finest kit will hold a stable arc under those conditions. I have a modern lorch set and a very old fronius set. Both pass this test with flying colours.

I do look for good or even premium machines. Used ones. And I do take interest in machines without pulse.
If I don't find one I might have to go for a thermal arc or there about. And that will also be fine for me.

Also I look at the heavy older stuff on wheels. But then I can't part with my kemppi mma.
I would prefer a cute handbag model because of the weight. And easy to store in the kitchen. Yes.......
My 200 kg esab dc generator also is inside the house. Just inside the front door.
Dry and cosy.
If needed I drag it out on the porch and fire it up. It's on electricity. It's on four wheels. Wheels with air inside. Not the rock hard type that can't roll over things. I had to lift it up on the porch with the tractor. So it's not that mobile as the salesman claimed it to be!

The kemppi is so cute I can take it with me inside the grocery store. I almost get hero wind in my hair when I have it with me.

God I hope the tig will be a cute one.

But you are talking about used machines aren’t you?
I would hope you do try it out before you buy it.
Complete madness buying a used machine in good faith that it works. I’ve Heard far too many horror stories to even consider not testing a used machine before paying.

It's a problem with very few used machines here. It's better in Norway. Don't know why. I have 150 km to the border so they can be far away.
Noting interesting so far though.

Most of the machines I encounter is in the UK.
It's a gamble with those.

Your money and certainly not my place to tell you how to spend it but I can you it’s absolute madness imo to chance hundreds and in some cases thousands on used kit that’s not been tested.

Anders I have been checking out their machines.
Just a couple of days ago I realized you have to search for them. I have always thought they had none used in stock.

I really have a hard time figuring this out.
The deeper you dig into something the more complex it gets. Doesn't it?
But in the end it's all about you.
These pictures in your head. What you fantasize about.
Most of the time they are better of being fantasies. They are, for my part, not often quite realistic. They tend to disregard of the negative things.
So you try to use your logic. And that's impossible!? Pure logic. It's never been heard of.

If you help someone else the logic take the upper hand. Reason. Maybe with ease.
You don't se those pictures of what you are going to do if you get it. The distiller, the shovel, the exhaust system. Standard buyer thoughts.
And if you do see those pictures they are without emotions. It's not you.

And when you are the buyer your brain doesn't take the reason in you get from others.

I think we all have these problems but not on my level. Jesus Christ!
Now this is the truth: I often do take a decision just to end it. At least that's how I feel. The process ends without me having control of it. I mean I am the one who ends it but I can't take in the whole view of the situation. So I have to take a decision without the clarity. I lost it.
