Filter material for welder innards?

Provided solvents are brown dry and allowed to fully evaporate before turning it back on it can't do any harm. Indeed it will clean alot more thoroughly.

Friend who repaired high end video camera's used to clean the boards in ultrasonic cleaner and distilled wate, said it cured over 50% of problem's.

There's a fire retardant material they use on old furniture to meet current fire regs. Its a white gauze that goes over the old foam and under the cloth cover.

Don't put anything there. We can all guess but no one knows what that fan will perform like with additional resistance or what the additional resistance of whatever filter you might choose will be when it's clean, let alone dirty.

If you really wanted to try, I would suggest putting a digital readout from a thermocouple put onto the hottest component in the box to do before/after measurements as well as ongoing monitoring to spot if things are overheating.

If I wanted to protect it, I'd try running it in an otherwise empty steel storage cabinet. A big enough one to keep the air temperature within acceptable.

13"square, 10mm thick, but will compress to less than 0.5 mm easily.

How would you secure the filter to the welders body?

Experimentally - outside of the intake louvres just gaffa tape around the edges. When proven no ill effects, 1/2" angle frame with Tig wires across and down to make a holding lattice, filter behind the lattice and then mount either internally or externally over the louvres.
