I've started practicing on this fender apron full of holes. I'm consistently getting this bird crap looking weld and there always seems to be an excessive amount of weld to grind off. My beads that I have practiced look just as bad if not worse! I'm not using any gas and just trying to get the feel for mig welding. I can get the welds done but it always seems like I'm going through an excessive amount of wire and not very good penetration.
Another problem I am facing is my wire is jumpy. It's not a consistent feed when you pull the trigger, like it's binding somewhere inside. I've tried adjusting the tension on the feed but it does it no matter what. I think I should try using a smaller gauge wire and see if that helps.
