Hi, newbie here. Great forum!
I have recently done a MIG welding course at Cardiff MET, I am a hobbiest repairing my own aging vehicles and making the odd garden sculpture! Last week bought my first welder, a used SIP Ideal 240N. Tested it and it works great (pic attached after I'd got it home and cleaned it up). It came with an almost empty X47s bottle of Coogar 5 gas from Air Products.
The seller said he had an account with Air Products but they never sent him paperwork, he's had the welder about 6 years and basically used the one large bottle till it was empty.
He suggested I find someone in Cardiff with an Air Products account and fill it through their account, if possible. Or find someone with gas and use a transfer hose to equalize the pressures and pay them for the gas.
When I mentioned it to an engineer at work he said it's not allowed and that really, technically, I should return the bottle to Air Products because it's their property. Obviously, I am a bit bummed about this.... I don't think I'll have the bottle to do any more welding... badoom tssssss. Sorry... He said in the old days you could just take any bottle and get it filled and pay for the gas, but not any more.
Any suggestions on what is best to do? Does anyone have experience with Air Products in Cardiff (or an account and wants a new best buddy!!)? Maybe they're a bit flexible and will just let me fill it??
Many thanks in advance for any advice.
Reuben
