I wouldnt have expected the Bahco edges to have gone just doing a mower blade, seem average compared with old Stubs and Vallorbe.
Thats Bahco off the list for future replacements.

I walked in to hear the file skidding over the surface and stopped him but the damage was done by then. I'm pretty sure it was case or induction hardened and may have had "Do Not Sharpen" stamped on it. I ran it over the bench grinder then skimmed it with a 115mm sanding disc as it had a lot of chips in the edges then balanced it as best I could. If it was soft I would have expected to see dents rather than chips.

Had a friend who ran a Motor vehicle work shop at a hire education establishment, They shut it down made him redundant & sold the machine shop for SCRAP I did say it was a higher education place shame on the management, you can imagine the scrap man thinking

Same here the local agricultual college filled 4 massive roll on skips with the contents and tools of the educational work shop, including brand new volvo pentas engines gearboxes etc

Should still be fine Wallace used to file up tool and spring steel fully hardened all day long.
Used to bring the worn ones home now and again and cut rotary mower and brush cutter blades with ease. 2nd cut three square pretty good for that, nice sweeping action feeling for whats happening.
Done the right thing if skating off, all that will do is wear the file out. Just getting an idea of Bahco versus Vallorbe or a decent file.

Have Nicholson packed up then? All farriers used to use Nicholson horse rasps, but we used to use them for hot filing steel too, they were very good.

If Wallace saves them for 'Best' that is good enough for me.
Should get them in a few days.
And no you cant borrow a file.
A while back some idiot blacksmith student asked to borrow an angle grinder for a morning as his had blown up.
When I said no he said 'but you've got three of them' and asked again.
There is a word for people like that.
