The Mk1 Escort project is going to be worth a small fortune when finished as I have just spent 5 years alone just de rusting the shell. Its not going to be concours as its too painfull but will look absolutely spot on when completely done. struggling getting decent rust free bonnet and boot but came upon a company called Smith and Deakin. Has anyone tried their panels. Quality?

Thanks Alec. I seem to recall some of the works RS's used a glass bonnet but it was top notch. Bonnets and boots are becoming difficult to source now but if I can find a decent glass one, with a bit of work, I can probably get a half decent look. Its only last ditch of course, I live in hope we can find a bonnet/ boot frame from a barn find in a hot country.

The value in a classic car is in its originality. Replace original metal panels with plastic and value will suffer. If you are rebuilding it as a replica of a competition car that used plastic or aluminium panels instead of steel - fine but otherwise try to stick to the original spec.

Not used them myself, but I have seen good comments about them in Classic Ford magazine and on Ford forums. I did actually bookmark their website for my future reference, as I'm building a MK2.

I have used panels from Honeybourne Mouldings for my sons MGB and was very pleased with the panels for the price.
