I use Filarc 56 as my lo-hi rod, they're 7016 and I love em. Find them very easy to control compared with some 7018's that I used a while back. A nice rod.

Everyone else has covered the details here, treat them like 7018's and you can't really go wrong.

Update on the 7016's..........gave 'em a try, but I couldn't really get on with 'em. Seemed a bit too aggresive, even with the amps down.

Went back to my 7018's, no more probs.

Two good welding days, sunburn on the back of the neck, arcburn under the chin, knees killin' me..........but did I burn some rods...

I'm not throwing the others out, I'll give them a try on something else.
I started blowing holes thro' the root (ok, could have been my naff fit up) but then I used 7018's with no probs, including welding the holes up............so dunno

Plenty more to do, so I can put your rods to the test, cheers JB...

yeah..actually I worked that out (having trawled my way backwards through the thread...having nothing better to do with my life). Just thought you needed a bit of fun poking

Mike at DIYwelding, kindly sent me some sample 7016 rods, an' I've finally had chance to try them. OK, only been tacking 6mm plate, but used vertically up, they were very nice rods. Excellent penetration, glass hard flux which released as soon as it was chipped. I purposely made the tacks longer than normal, to check the control. Used a simple "fast across the middle, pause at the shoulders (vee). I could control the weld and at no time did the keyhole get out of hand.
If the price is ok, I will be ordering a full pack, for a more in depth test.

Hey-up Si, sideplates up and tacked, stern wrapper plate formed and placed to one side, just on with the swim plates, and then next will be the counter plate.............gettin' interesting.

Ferex rods are a lovely rod used boxes of them don't get on with them in position tho @bR39Da you love a spezial lol
