The finishing touch to my hedged bank,featured on this very forum end of last year,and featuring a nifty post banger,wont be long now and the hedge will be flowering,
I paid extra for all the posts and got creosoted ones,then soaked the lowers in waste oil.
Eventually,plan on a pitched roof,and wood cladding on the containers.
The white bags are full of local stone for my partner to finish her dry stone wall.

A caring man allowing his Mrs to build her own dry stone wall. I might have to try that. What breed of hedge is it and how long is it expected to take to become a hedge rather than sticks

It’s easy to be caring,I love dry stone walls as well,local predominantly,Herefordshire,breconshire,Radnorshire,then on our travels,one stone from each county,south/mid/west Glamorgan,Staffordshire,Derbyshire,Yorkshire.the hedge is quickthorn.

Dry stane dykes, can’t beat them. Myself and a friend built them all round my old house. He was a dyker before we met. He picked a stone up and it fitted, I picked a stone up and was lucky if it fitted. Don’t think I ever saw him putting a stone back on the pile. He never used a hammer to chip bits off either. Got bollocked a few times for getting the batter wrong. Learnt a lot

I agree dry stone walls look great. Ive built a couple here, but take me ages, and I shall fix what we have but wont be building anymore as it neatly killed me last time. The builder who did the stonework on our barns said when he was young he could do 7 meters a day. I was doing about 1.5.

I made myself do 4m/5m a day. At weekends when the two of us were doing it, we did anywhere from 6m - 9m. Don’t think we ever managed double figures, to many coffee breaks
