On the subject of Fein grinders, they also do a range of grinders fitted with 3-phase induction motors, driven by external high frequency converters. They are brushless, sealed, run at 200v and 300Hz, and have green plugs. The top 5" grinder is rated at 1900W, and the 9" is 3.7KW.
[ The Wacker "Magic" SDS breakers are similar, but the 3-phase inverter is built in to the tool.]

Good quality.
Better than festool imho no idea what their range is like these days but there multitool was the one to buy for years.

Had one for around 20yrs or so, had quite a lot of use, still going strong. Must say I use other brands of blades, o/e to expensive.

I recently got a Fein cordless die grinder, comes with 2 5ah batteries. There's plenty of power but I wasn't too impressed with how long the batteries took to go flat. Only one other gripe, as they cost around £400 plus at retail, (not what I paid though) it only comes with 1x6mm collet, I've got a mixture of 6mm, 1/4, 3mm and 8mm shanked burrs and stones,I will have to go and buy the other collets but at the price I would have thought they would be included. Apart from that they look and feel well built.

I have some Fein equipment, very good quality, nicely designed and good to use. The main thing I use is a multitool, I did originally have a Bosch one (free with air miles) but they are around 1/2 the price of the Fein. The Bosch only lasted a few months before it went pop. I spent the extra and have never regretted it, better power cable (longer and rubberised so it behaves unlike the hard plastic ones) feels good in the hand, lower vibration, nice case.

I recently wanted to sand down some plaster walls and did not want to use the Fein so got a £20 Aldi one (on offer for £15 due to damaged packaging) and having both side by side, the Aldi one works, they have similar speeds, the Aldi one is surprising well made and does the job, but it is (to varying degrees) inferior to the Fein in every way other than price (to be fair to Aldi, the Fein one was 10x the price!).

you mean they wore out those grinders in a week?
I have to say my metabo 115s are a distance better in the vibration stakes than the blue Bosch I used before, would be interesting to see what the Fein wsg8 would be like, esp as looks to be similar price.

They did indeed, they're lads are animals with them. They go through abrasives like there's no tomorrow.

That's hard to believe but c'mon, if a guy is shredding a grinder a week would he really be invited back for the next week to rip the guts out of another one? Are these guys working underwater or something?

I've had weeks where I've done more grinding than a Vegas lapdancer but I'd expect at least a year out of a Makita/Hitachi/Metabo in general use-heck even an Aldi special lasted 4 months..

I do buy my own tools though so that makes a huge difference.

My 18v DeWalt is coming to the end of it's life. Been hammered hard for 4 years.
Il replace it like for like regularly hammered for an hour at a time.
If tool manufacturers stopped with proprietory battery designs and everyone used the same I'd buy from a selection of suppliers

I do buy my own tools though so that makes a huge difference.

Got a couple of Fein polishers at work.
Take a fair bit of stick before they show up any signs of slowing.
Built solid, very positive but a bit chunky.
Its years old, so may be a little more ergonomic nowadays.

Side note on longevity of Makitas, I killed 2 in a week not long ago. One of the others got a spanker, 4 days later, it caught fire

My opinion, the guys need sacking. If they don't look after the tools, what's the rest of the job gonna look like!!

Metabo grinders are gone crap we used to buy nothing else but they just don’t last anymore. We use dewalt corded and Milwaukee cordless now .
We have fein for our polishing gear and it’s old but brilliant only issue we’ve had was the cord broke going into the polisher but simple shorten and reattach and it’s back perfect.
