I can see what your saying. On a slow pulse the current fluctuations will elaborate the "stack of dimes effect" yes. And for those porn weld seekers this can only be a good thing. But the way I see it the slow fluctuations of two different currents could offer mixed penetration depths particularly if your foreground and background currents are very different. A high speed pulse would not do this as it would generate an average % current giving even penetration but been high speed it won't really improve the stack of dimes effect over not using one at all. What it does improve is heat input control, distortion, and welding speed. A lot of people say it improves general appearance but I've seen some flawless welding done with or without it. I'd say appearance is down to the guys level of skill.
