Feather edge/closeboard fencing

I've decided it's time to bite the (expensive) bullet and replace our old fence with a feather edge one.
I'm looking at using V-notched posts such as these as I think it looks much tidier than brackets and the rail side will be our neighbours.

The problem I have is that I want to drop it from 6' to 5' after 7m then to 4' after 31m, ideally keeping the arris rail at a constant height, but the only length posts my local suppliers do is 2.4m.
It should work ok with the 5' to 4' drop as I can cut the top off the posts and use the lower two notches but I can't really see any way I'd be able to do that with the 6' to 5' drop as there's not a foot spare above the top notch and at 5' I still need to use 3 arris rails. I reckon my only option is to cut a foot off the bottom and lower the arris rails and fill the empty notches with offcuts of rail just to tidy it..
Or am I missing something obvious?

Could you not buy a plain post and cut your own notches?

us in the yorkshire area would never buy feather board it wouldnt last with the wind

we buy board and board it on either side of it so the wind has chance to go through it much better than feather board fencing or even pinelap fencing

After doing a quick drawing I think I'm pretty sorted, I'll just have to lop the top off the posts on the 5' run then cut another notch to suit the top rail.
It might look a little odd as the top and middle rails won't be evenly spaced but I won't be looking at that side anyway.

If your going to use timber posts even tho there pressure treated , I'd go to an agricultural supplier and get 25 litres of REAL creosote and soak the bits that's gonna be in the ground for a few days ,
I suppose u could paint them with bitumen paint Allso ?
I'm tired of replacing treated posts every 7 or 8 years
You can get concrete posts that have bolt holes in for horizontal timber rails .
I prefer the look of timber but have changed two timber posts for slotted concrete recently

I agree, normal treatment is pants, 7 to 8 years, Ive tried creosoted poststhis time. But for a garden fence, Im a fan of concrete. My first flat 37 years ago is still on the first fence with concrete posts.

I would use concrete posts below ground

I'd go concrete too but if wood rather cant rails than notched posts and Arris rails

Morticed concrete posts/gravel boards are not everyones cup of tea but will last and you can change heights/elevations easily.

Ive always preferred this option best of all worlds, easy to board over the posts awell but wont rot.

Concrete posts and gravel boards all the way. Do it once. Concrete takes fence paint lovely so you can have it any colour you like.
