How can you find this topic bizarre? one of the core essentials of all metalwork is the good old file....
In truth, I only started this thread as an excuse write "bastard" and have it taken off the censored expletives list!

I just bloody love all tools! Got a few files, one half round jobbie thats been around for as long as I can remember has to be my fave.

Bizzare but random fact, if you have a file and it gets blunt, leave it outside in the garden for a week or two to rust up. Then it will magically start cutting like a new one...

I assume this is always why rusty old files from the flea markets always cut really well long enough to leave you chuffed that they only cost 20p.

Nah, i buy all my manky old tools from a place called troc d'lile , which is a warehouse that people take stuff to be flogged to. They hand it over, agree a price and get a phone call to come and pick the money up when its sold.
Of course 99% is complete junk and overpriced, but 1% Im going to assume they didn't know what they were looking at

Nothing as nice as a nice 14" curved tooth file, flattening edges they are great

Which reminds me...powerfile, that's my favourite. Use it all the time, both the crappy B&D electric (which just goes on and on) and the air one. Of course I have to like my rat-tail as well handy for easing holes (stops the fatty ratties getting stuck).

10 yr? Nah..mine was a classic 7 year but we weathered that one and now it's all lovely (mostly ). Nothing like a bit of turmoil to bring you closer.
