favourite engineering smells

God only knows what :full they put in these "fragrances" cos often I get a wiff & my eyes water & I start sneezing. Cant go into Boots the chemist as they put this junk near the door.

Why do people pay huge amounts of cash to stink like a cross betwen toilet cleaner & a dogs bum ?

I tell ya Jugs, I'd pay an awfy lot of money not to smell like my dogs bum!

Dunno...never sniffed at my dogs bum???? i'll leave that to the dog...

But yes, some women really overdo it, it makes you almost faint only talking to them....
I like the more subtile ones...( just to hide my eau the welder a bit)

i like the smell when you walk in to a factory full of lathe's and millers and you can smell the sudds in the air ( most people dont thow must be an engineering thinglol)

Retired now but always liked the smell of Rocol cutting paste, (in small doses of course)

Angle grinders cutting steel, the (already mentioned) wood cut with something a bit blunt, that mig smell and best of all rockoil from a two stroke. You get the wood and rockoil smell at the same time with a chainsaw, happy days!

Probably gear oil. Had a '51 Willys Jeep CJ3B. The smell of something similar brings back fond memories.

Simple, 1 wire to coil, 1 vacuum line to windshield wiper. Plenty of room to work. Rewired the entire electrical system in an afternoon (and added turn signals.)

Had 4 shift levers on the floor. Lots of places for the gear oil smell to get inside

Must admit the land rover had its own unique smell it was like gear oil and diesel probably got something to do with the fact that the hot gearbox was just under the floor and the diesel tank was under the seat


After dropping the diff to remove the sheared bit of the half shaft I could not get the smell of gear oil of my cloths and hands thought the stuff was dreadful but like you said it brings back good memories
hmm good times going to college over them hills lol
