Faulty ERP

I am new to the forum and would appreciate some advice on my faulty welder. The welder is an ERP turbo 150 thats about 12 years old. I returned it to the manufacturer a local company for repair as it was continualy blowing the supply fuse. They tell me that the main transformer is faulty and have quoted £100 to replace. In fairness they suggest that the machine is not worth repairing in view of its age. I am tempted to scrap this welder off and invest in a better machine, but first I wondered if I might obtain a suitable replacement part cheaper elsewhere. I dont know much about transformers or if they are dedicated to specific machines. Would appreciate any advice on this.

not familiar with the ERP, but i find that manufacturer repairs tend to be priced such that you will buy a new machine, try to find a trade welding supplies company that does repairs, they may have second hand machines that can be cannibalized for repairs, you probably wont get a warranty on this type of job though.

I would suppect that 100.00 GBP is about the going rate for a couple of hours work + parts, but I will agree that you're probably better off buying another welder.

If you have a suitable power supply, I would look something like a Oxford RT180 on Ebay an oil cooled welder, large/heavy/industrial and will last you a life time.

An example here (but one in very nice condition, scabby looking one's can be had for 90.00, beauty is only skin deep):

I don't think that there would be much hope, but might be worth a quick look on ebay or something before you replace/repair it.

Had one bought in 1997 £200, hardly did anything with it made an exhaust and a bench thats about it.
Wire feed problems just starting a no return jobby!
Guessed it parts non existent and scrapped some months back.
