Fake makita batteries and tools

Just a heads up bought one of these fake makita type grinders {mine was from amazon} a while back. i'm not complaining, you get what you pay for with these things,
To think I almost bought 3 of these with half a dozen batteries I anticipated it would brake at some point but not the melting batteries.

I've had nothing but bad luck with clone makita batteries.
I bought 4 and all 4 have failed due to cheap cells.
They've been rebuilt with good quality cells and upgraded bms boards but I still don't trust them.
When I add up the rebuild costs it would be cheaper to buy the genuine batteries at the start!

The fake tools on their own won’t burn your garage down.

I got off lightly then,it had seen very little work, it's not like the tools themselves are of decent quality either,i was only looking the other day for cheap-er batteries for my makita drills to..
i think i'll dig deep and stick to the legits.

Ye i did read through a bit of the feed back before buying. most of it was like you said.. questioning the power, nothing about melting though

I have a couple of knock off grinders. They are OK for home use, they need a decent battery. Bought a cheap drill. It is very poor. No motor brake on it, so changing drill bits is a pain as the chuck wants to turn. That has been relegated to the woodwork shed and forgotten about. I also have a mid-torque impact. It is fine for well-stuck smallish nuts.

My best investment was two genuine 6Ah batteries. I only prat about at home and they will run everything I need for a workshop session. There's always the corded grinder if I have loads of grinding work to do. All my lithium batteries live in a metal box. Peace of mind.

You used to get a deal in screwfix of a makita drill, charger and 2 x 5Ah batteries for £130.
Thats the price of the batteries so if you sell the drill and charger it gives you cheap batteries.
Unfortunately that deal is gone, close to £200 for it now!

i think i'll dig deep and stick to the legits.

It's the sensible & safest option.

The other alternative is buy an adaptor on aliexpress and use the Parkside x20v batteries in your tool.

There are adaptors for dewalt, makita, ryobi, bosch, etc.

Those Parkside batteries are pretty good quality and well priced. I can't find a definitive answer whether or not they have built in undervoltage protection but if you will know yourself when a battery is getting flat plus there is an led display on the battery.
