For the sake of argument, if they got 2 or 3 million supporters I think the government would be taking notice. What really worries me is that this is the thin end of the wedge, once they get away with this slow, inexorable increase they will just continue to do it.
Also think about domestic energy prices, the industry is getting comfortable with these massive annual increases and not reducing when the wholesale price falls. I know they have forward buying contracts but thats not the whole story, just something they use to placate the ignorant. Those contracts could also be negotiated, if they are not already, to incorporate price reductions on a falling wholesale.
We are being scammed on a massive scale and just sitting back and taking it !

Exactly! Well said Tigler, I agree with you 100%, We are being scammed by the Government with their Taxes and fake "green" policies (high gas and electric prices as well!!) to rip us off for no real reason!

It is not the Oil companies that profit from the high price of fuel but our corrupt politicians!

They had no alternative back then, the internet didn't exist.
The government has worked very effectively in the decades since that time to develop public apathy, looks like they've done a good job.

I'm all for direct action but even there the government has pulled the teeth of such efforts by making it a legal requirement to ask permission to stage public protests, sort of makes it ineffective if they have prior knowledge of any such attempts, especially as they would then realise the proposed scale and declined to give approval !!

Thats pretty much the case Keith...............and the illegal attack on the people of Iraq, with taxpayers having to pay for the subsequent whitewash job to cover the asses of those responsible, seems to suggest very strongly just how rotten and corrupt those in power actually are!

If anyone following this thread is seriously interested in doing something about fuel price rise, then the only way to do anything about this is through organised and concerted direct action, which will effect the financial interests of those responsible to such an extent, that it will cost them less to give up the idea of introducing unwarranted price rises whenever they feel like it.

I signed up for it a fair while ago now, as mentioned I have little belief it will actually have any major effect but doing nothing is not an option. Giving support cost you nothing other than a few seconds of your time.

The less we do about any of this greed culture we live in, the more it will occur. Every time people roll over its saying "its OK we accept it." The more we accept the more it will happen. Its at a level where i totally despise what this country stands for, I can only see it getting worse.


The government of current and previous years had a magical opportunities to make the greed culture unfashionable, as it had become so over the last three decades or so. The banking crisis highlighted what happens in a greed culture. That was the opportunity to stamp it out and instill some decency back into every type of business making huge profits off the back of the general public.

So many business do this now its common place from every day consumer goods to car spares, we are ripped in this country because we sent the message that's ok to rip us off. The longer we send that message the longer it will last. Even staying alive in this country will be unsustainable for the not so well off. The only way i can see this is, its big business keeping us poor for every day living needs, in the name of profit they do not actually need or to line the pockets of share holders, who are actually lucky enough to have free cash to invest. The the rich poor divide becomes ever greater, and it is, day by day.

Doing nothing is not an option in my book. Even something as small as signing that fair fuel petition is one small way of saying we will not accept it in the name of greed for the few, which is now i feel represented through out all of uk business. However you look at it its better than saying" we accept it carry on as you wish."

Look at it this way, the government is our employee and we are the employer. The only thing that's ass about face is they hold all the power because we allow them to do as they please, we do nothing about it.

They may see it as an harmless way of allowing the masses to let off steam; until the numbers become threatening...

Our friends across the channel are rather better at the direct action than we are, whether it's fuel prices or anything else.
