This organisation was instrumental in preventing the government from continuing with it's fuel price escalator policy and are now lobbying them to have pump prices reduced now that oil prices are falling. I have been supporting them since they started, it's not a scam, it's an organisation that can help us all by preventing the government and oil companies exploiting us with high pump prices. They need support from as many of the population as possible, all you need to do is add your name to their list of supporters, do it now, and help stop us all lining the pockets of the rich.

In a "democracy" where 1 million people marched in the hope of stopping the illegal attack against the people of Iraq and this was ignored pretty much completely, is a government whose primary purpose is to serve the interests of big business, likely to take a great deal of notice of signatures on a web page, which almost certainly has been set up by oil company PR people?

The alternative is to do nothing and get shafted every time government and big business wants to. Issues like Iraq are an entirely different thing, the value of the pound in our pockets is a direct effect that we all feel. You can't lose by signing up to this, but there is much to gain. It will be too late when you can longer afford to use a car.
As I mentioned, this organisation has already helped to influence government to change policy.

Just recived my latest update from them and so far they have 160,000 signed up signatories, a drop in the sea of a population of 57 million plus.
These lobby groups whilst doing a service do no good whatsover, only direct action counts, they can chinwag all day long in Westminster, but the self serving slobs just ignore it and carry on safe in the knolwedge they aint paying for their Bentleys, Aston Martins, Range Rovers and priveledge cars.

so checking a little further the guy that set up the site and owns the domain name is english and lives in the uk
so it appears to be legit

Thats the reason they are trying to increase their number of supporters.
There is one thing for sure, if we sit back and adopt an apathetic attitude the government definitely won't be listening !
I'm sure just about everyone in the uK who pays for their own fuel is not happy with how much it costs now, especially when there is no acceptable reason for it costing so much. It's like having some official reaching into your pocket to help himself everytime you fill up !!

I'll happily sign up as it costs me nothing, however I do believe that chasing the oil companies is barking up completely the wrong tree.
I'm led to believe (and I concede these are not gauranteed figures) that the breakdown is something like this.
1 litre petrol = approx £1.35
Cost of production and profits for oil company and retailer = approx £0.49
Government tax = approx £0.59
VAT (on the fuel and the tax you are already paying!) = approx £0.27
The vast majority of the pump price is tax. Yep, it sucks, but that's the way it is. And even if the tax was reduced on fuel, Uncle George would still have to balance the books so he would have to get it elsewhere, by taxing something else instead.
The only way to reduce your fuel costs is to simply not buy it. Unfortunately the British public have become lazy and won't get out of there cars. Yes I am aware that a lot of us need to use cars and vans for working etc and I am equally aware that public transport is rubbish and costs too much, but there are also a huge number of un-necessary journeys each day. But that is a whole different debate.

Anyway, that's my rant over! Please be aware that this it is my OPINION only.

Engineer I dont think anyone disputes that the governments interest lies with big business because big business means bigger taxes from them.
I think the point is that if you sit on your a@s$ and do nothing "NOTHING" will happen,just like not doing the lottery means you wont win??.
Nobody is talking a revolution just have your say and see what happens.
And even if all that was to happen is the haulage companies had some sort of reduced tax on fuel this would mean lower costs in the shops which benifits EVERYONE.

We're not likely to change the way the country has run for the past few hundred years, but as posted before it only takes a few minutes to register and costs nothing.

Just for general information, lots of 'UK' web sites are hosted in Germany, particularly if they use 1 & 1 hosting, which is a German-based company, and one of the largest for web hosting.
I signed some time ago, as did most of my friends. Whether it makes a big difference is a moot point, but I guess every signature helps. It makes you feel you're doing something, even if it's nothing...

For the sake of argument, if they got 2 or 3 million supporters I think the government would be taking notice. What really worries me is that this is the thin end of the wedge, once they get away with this slow, inexorable increase they will just continue to do it.
Also think about domestic energy prices, the industry is getting comfortable with these massive annual increases and not reducing when the wholesale price falls. I know they have forward buying contracts but thats not the whole story, just something they use to placate the ignorant. Those contracts could also be negotiated, if they are not already, to incorporate price reductions on a falling wholesale.
We are being scammed on a massive scale and just sitting back and taking it !

The big problem is that there is no regulation by government.
When government and big business work closely together, are in each others pockets, and cover up for each other, it makes it very difficult to get change.
Big business and government working closely together is one of the basic tenets of a fascist state...

Thats pretty much the case Keith...............and the illegal attack on the people of Iraq, with taxpayers having to pay for the subsequent whitewash job to cover the asses of those responsible, seems to suggest very strongly just how rotten and corrupt those in power actually are!

If anyone following this thread is seriously interested in doing something about fuel price rise, then the only way to do anything about this is through organised and concerted direct action, which will effect the financial interests of those responsible to such an extent, that it will cost them less to give up the idea of introducing unwarranted price rises whenever they feel like it.

In recent times the only major change effected by popular dissent was related to the poll tax protests, which as well as finishing the poll tax, also put paid to thatcher. This was achieved through direct action, carried out by people prepared to go a bit further than signing a ridiculous online petition
