I went to Sellafield Visitors Centre years ago, now closed, tour guide said they'd had a perfect safety record.
I piped up saying "Windscale didn't", is that why they renamed it to "Sellafield".
She went all crinkly lipped, and dodged the true answer......
The visitor centre closed in 2008, the year after I visited.....

Yes, it's £30 ish. We plan to go at some time but you need to book in advance. There's a free exhibition of Triumph bikes on the site though that's very good, with a cafe.I organised a visit to Triumph Motorcycles years ago for the motorcycle club I belonged too, many years ago. A very interesting day out, but I understand it's now a paid for visit....

Can't remember a huge amount of detail but going from the visitors centre on a bus around the site then having to wear a coat/overalls of some type and the dosimeter things to go inside and have a look through the windows at the water storage pools and other stuff, then being scanned on the way out. It was an interesting day out.
Another good one that is no longer open is the Dinorwig Power Station tour in Llanberis, felt like you were in a Bond movie being driven down into the tunnels there.
