Faceplate identification?

I found this nice 9" faceplate in my dads stash, its definitely doesn't fit his Myford, too big a thread. The only other lathe he had was a small round bed Drummond and I can't see it coming off of that.

Any ideas what it fits?

The plan is to have a bit of a clear out of a couple of chucks and stuff to fund a decent 4 or 5" 4 jaw independent for the Myford.

I was hoping to find out what it fits first in case its something I may buy in the future. Unlikely though, I have the Triumph for big stuff, and I can't sell the Myford as it was my dads. But, I have got three of everything else!

I counted about 7 threads in 20mm, so the thread is something like 9 tpi.

The hole in the rear is 44mm measured with calipers, not sure what the imperial equivalent is.

how deep is the counter bore?? will go measure mine now

The machined bit of the counter bore is 1/2", and it appears to be about 16.5mm to the root if the threads.

I have a 7" Myford faceplate and loads on the Colchester so not really necessary. Nice faceplate though with the T slots.

As it's a bit of a pig to measure the internal thread pitch, so I've taken an imprint of the thread with Blutack, I would say the threat pitch is about 3 to 3.5mm. I have some imperial BluTack somewhere...

no just thread adapter to suit, presume it would clear bed in gap? either way he has plenty so no need as its surplus to his requirements.

Measure across 5 threads. The error is averaged out then so you'll get a much more accurate estimation.

Why didn't I think of that!

It was 0.5" across 4 teeth so I say it looks like 8 tpi

It's now boxed up ready to head over to @Anguz on Monday.

I think the standard 4 jaw independant for the Myford is a 6" Burnard.

Be aware though that you need a short length chuck, a standard one is too long for the gap in the bed. A friend gave me a nice chuck to try & it was too long, if you opened the jaws out past the body they were hitting the bedways!

Just bought a Bernard 34M 6" independent, it was "made" for the Myford ML7 supposedly. No big backplate sticking out so should play nicely

The Bison 4 jaw I bought a while ago has the backplate reversed from "normal" so the boss sits inside the chuck body.
