Isn't that a 'default' question on the FB site? It may be to save potential purchasers from making contact [wasting time & money] and getting "Oh, no, that sold two weeks ago". Well, update your listing then....

couple of things i hate on facebook i dont hold stuff for more than a day i like a person if possable to collect the same day as most of the time if they cant be bothered to get off there ass that day why would they bother the next day or they change there mind over night (sorry if this weeds out a few genuine people and if they go i will send to a depost id say there good and then hold it for them but dont take the depost)
or i message people for an item go through all the agreeing a price finding where there to etc then say is it ok if i pickup when i finsh work in 2 hours? then i get a reply back oh sorry someone said they can collect now (well i would collect now if i dont have a job)

I've sold on FB plenty of times, there are idiots but idiots aren't limited to FB, if I get a message asking a question but no reply I simply block them, had enough time wasters to be able to weed them out and not wasting my time on them

My recent purchase 1911 Matchless engine came from faceboox, not marketplace but a Matchless group, a mate told me about it and got the seller to ring me, she kept it for a couple of days until she was free, it cost me a bit but I was pleased to get it, several people had messaged her telling her how valuable it wasbut they did not want to buy it,

I just love those people who tell me that what I'm selling has some sort of thing that to their mind should prevent me selling the item .

Got one bovine braying that 5 kg of scrap lead for seafishing weight I was selling as collect only was a controlled toxic item . I asked her it that was a bid or buy now offer , if not ..................sod off.

Your mileage may vary - I got a "free" table saw a few weeks ago by paying £200 for a mitre saw and table saw, immediately re-selling the mitre for £150 and then selling my old table saw for £50.

Well in the last fortnight I've flogged 4 boat fridges and a pile of mousse matresses, probably pulled in over 200 euros+, not bad for stuff I was told to bin, split between myself and two colleagues.

It was all second hand but functional.

I got burnt on eBay this week
A compressor,
I checked the seller, over 300 transactions, 100% feedback.
I pressed the button and paid for it there and then on Wednesday.
Messaged the seller for details, for a Saturday collection as requested,
I messaged again on Friday morning,
I then got a reply,
It was sold to someone else, earlier that day
And returned my payment

I was messaged !!
It was listed elsewhere ?
They were moving house ?

I can't really add anything to that, it is a perfect description of 90% of Facebook users
You get what you pay for , I know Car dealers who will only advertise on Autotrader.com , as they get a lot less Messer's , and are happy to pay for their ad's if it means less idiots

i sell a few bits n bobs for cars , sometimes rare or specialist stuff

tried a few ad's on fb hoping to save ebay fee's and its hard work , endless questions , your profile looks dodgy dont buy from him comments , can i send to mongolia then get the hump when it costs ££££ , ebay is bliss and worth the fee to me , list it and they either buy it or not and the money comes in

have got the odd bargain when people dont know what theyre listing on fb but need to be fast

One good thing about the introduction of Facebook market place is that it gave some of the Messer's on eBay a new place to sell

They migrated to FB where no one could see the terrible feedback they had on eBay

I have found it can be worthwhile doing a Google search of usernames etc. when dealing with some of these idiots , it can be surprising what you find

Had mixed results on freecycle (it's freegle where we are) but to be fair 2 out of 3 good, 1 bad. Gifted a 1930's oak tea trolley, sweet thing, barley sugar twist legs, two tiers and on castors. Woman wanted it to 'upcycle', she'd pick up as arranged, she didn't, did she contact ? No. After a week someone else asked after it, promised to collect and did. First woman then contacts to say when can she collect and is very, very disappointed to hear it had gone, she'd promised it to a friend as a gift and would now have to explain why she couldn't have it!

Other two items were gifted as a result of 'wanted ads'; the first a dolls' house, I'd made it for a granddaughter who'd grown out of it, big thing, three stories and on a stand, went to another set of grandparents.
The second: a trailer chassis; I'd intended to build a bike trailer but heart related issues had put paid to that, then followed a temporary 6 month health related driving ban (a seizure as a result of a viral infection) meant I couldn't get it to a scrappy to weigh it in and no space to store it.
I was a bit embarrassed to be fair, the tyres were perished and well beyond roadworthy, although the chassis itself was in great condition and everything worked.
Guy was delighted to have it, he and his wife turned up 10 mins ahead of time and between the 3 of us wedged it into the back of a Citroen Picasso. Turned out he wanted it to mount a amateur radio aerial on.
He was as happy as a happy thing, as were we.
