The garage is virtually done. A few things on the bench I can’t bare to take to the tip as they’re is nothing wrong with them so need to gift them on to someone who’ll put good use to them. I can actually walk down the garage with space on either side whilst getting my hands on what I need. Just need to keep it that way.

The gazebo has been a God send and even the wife said it’s been a great buy. Now it’s empty I just need to give it wipe down before packing it away whilst it’s still dry.

I lay carpet under my 4 post lift. It makes it nicer to be there, but it's primary aim is to soak up the oil spills.

My garage is going to be my office since selling both lathes and both milling machines plus most of the other gear, it just made sense to make it a nice environment.

I'm still bringing magazines downstairs to gather them all together and see what I can throw out. I put some in the bin on Monday but I was a bit concerned at the weight, so I barely touched the sides really. I really should have done this during winter. Having them piled up in the living room will hopefully encourage me to get a move on with them, in a way that hiding them does not.

Had you thought about giving them to a motor museum? Any local to you? I've been to car or railway museums and they've sometimes had a pile in the shop area where you can just take a couple for free as you leave.

Another alternative would be to get a stall at an autojumble. People who sell old magazines professionally charge a lot per copy but if you sold them cheap you could cover your costs and get rid of quite a few.

Anything other than paper recycling is going to involve a bit of effort unfortunately.

I have thought about museums, but the only local one I have is Crewe Heritage Centre. I was gradually getting rid of the various railway magazines to them, but they've had a big clear-out after realising that no-one wants to buy them, even at 10p each. I've thought about autojumbles and the like, and car boot sales for the massive quantity of books that I'll have to deal with somewhere down the line, but it seems like a lot of effort for magazines. I might try some of the more glossy ones on eBay, but if I struggle to give them away it seems unlikely that I'll be able to get money for them. I might try Facebook Marketplace, see if anyone wants them, it's about the only online thing I haven't tried. I've tried the local model railway club, but no-one seems interested. I suspect they've also been through the same situation and don't want to end up with yet more.

I'm Cheshire East, I don't think they do anything for free, but I'll ask them. I did think of asking the bin men when they were here on Monday to see if I could refill the bin, but they haven't been enthusiastic about that in the past.

I can't be sure that there's nothing I want in the magazines I've bought, the car magazines, though it won't be money sadly. I'm doing fairly well with the model railway ones as I have never opened the majority of them since they came to me last year. I don't need to look in any of those. I've pulled a few articles out of some old Practical Classics that I'm going through, but I'm being ruthless. A lot of the older copies are such poor print and photographic quality - because that's how magazines were back then, not just because it's PC - that even if there was an article specific to my car, I doubt it would be worth keeping.

I've always fancied an O gauge (or even G) single track at just above door frame level with the locomotive running all the time I'm present.

I've just been onto FB marketplace and listed some magazines. Seems there are quite a lot of people getting rid of magazines on there, too. Some interesting stuff. Some wildly optimistic prices, too.

I've emailed the council to ask about any other options. They have a "bulky object collection" but they want nearly £50 for 1-3 items, and I'm not paying to get rid of them. I've also asked them what the weight limit in the recycling bin is - not from the point of view of the truck lifting it, but how well the edge of the bin will stand up. I can go to the tip, but my daily is a TT Roadster and there isn't a lot of room in it.

A friend of mine has a stash of vintage grot hidden in his garage in an old ammo box.
What should he do with them?

Some years ago a good friend died, he had been ill with MS for years. In his time he was what would have been described as a "Rake" handsome bastard & a real lady killer. His widow phoned me a few months later & asked me, "I have some swords & knives i want to get rid of & theres some books & stuff too".
So i turn up & the sofa is covered with sharp pointy things, a Couple of nice ones & the rest replicas, I assured her it was no problem to dispose of them properly. "Oh & theres this lot too" pointing to his bedroom.......
There in boxes & crates was his lifetimes collection of hard core porn, Pirrelli calendars, Hardback books, Videos, DVDs & magazines by the crateful.
There was a load of vintage colour climax mags & some awesome artwork cartoon books.
The whole lot filled my pickup truck to the brim & i drove away wondering how i was going to explain this lot to my wife.
She had a sense of humour bypass.
I managed to sell a lot of the rarer stuff & the cartoon books i kept as a souvenir, The Troubles of Janice by Erich Von Gotha. Proper classics!
The rest was distributed to the guys at the dump & served to grease the wheels of industry!

Kirklees have come up with a very conservative 32kg from a manual handling perspective, but from tidying up from past building projects, I'd say you're good for 75-100kg (make sure you get the weight near the axle if you can so the bin men can move it). Our bin is certainly still in one piece.

@Keith 66 we had a similar thing happen to us. A friend was moving house & asked if we could store some stuff in the garage. They moved, but never collected the items. Roll on several years, the guy had died & I contacted his widow & said it’s got to go. Said widow comes round with a new partner, takes most of the stuff apart from 2 books, looking rathe embarrassed, she said quietly “could you dispose of those” one was an illustrated book of the Karma Sutra, the other was a study of Asian pornographic art. Both very explicit. I couldn’t take to our local charity shop, could I! We were going to the Lakes for a few days, so double wrapped them & took them to a Penrith charity store. We went in & there were 2 very elderly ladies serving, so handed them over & made a hasty retreat. I said to Mrs C, “it wall give the old dears a heart attack when they open that up” with that a ambulance shot round the corner with full blues & two’s. Luckily it didn’t stop at the shop though. Phew!
