I don't think an app will work as that will just tell you the total cost of all the electricity ever used.
The price per unit should be on your bills
Read the meter, wait a day/week then read it again.
Take the first reading off the second and that's how many units you have used that day/week
Multiply that by the cost per unit on the bill and that's how much its costing you to run

well the app would work if it was the right app lol Place to input the price I am paying. Place to input the meter units used. And calculation behind the scenes to multiply/divide cost of those units. and an output in pounds



To be honest I am just being idle as I am feeling depressed and burnt out lately and lockdown is ended soon... I am sure its simple but honestly its becoming so hard to "think" just lately I feel like swimming of in a lake and not coming back.
I just shelled out for 2 sensors and a fuel filter on the Navara and the Fuel filter they wanted 92 quid...I just despair at times. And guess what limp mode still comes on when you boot it! We are starting to think its been mapped before I got it! as its fine when the fifth wheel is hooked up behind it or a heavy trailer....anyway I digress (on my own thread as well) lol

1k in how many? A percentage increase would mean less guessing.

Your supplier will almost certainly have all your monthly/quarterly/annual usage records and your tarriff details on their website.

well I think I might have sussed it! 21.43 pence a day standing charge = £9.780 over 46 days.

1350 meter units x 16.34 p per kWh = £22.05 over 46 days.

Total cost 31.83. unless I am wrong. which is why I wanted an app so I could not be wrong..lol

as 31.83 x 12 = 381.96 in a year...(if the months were 46 days.) and they are less..lol

so it makes no sense ....especially as its the same meter that is reading the 1350 in 46 days and we have NO electric heating.

the more u pay in standing charge the less you pay for a kw less standing charge the more kw u pay for best shopping round and see who will do u a fixed deal

I switched from EDF to Octopus on a 1 year fixed rate.

We are in dispute with SSE at the moment over numerous things. The total weve paid according to them over the last 2 years differs from what the total we've paid them according to my banking.

Despite sending readings, they havn't updated and were still running on estimated bills for a long time. Not an estimate of any previous period either, just some random figures they got out of Guinevere.

Despite sending readings, they havn't updated and were still running on estimated bills for a long time. Not an estimate of any previous period either, just some random figures they got out of Guinevere.

OOPs best check that as well not thought about that. Its was bad enough getting a £671 final balance.

It might just be that they are estimating yours and have gone over, or they were underestimating and now they have actually taken a reading and it's well over?

My supplier has a way of registering your mobile phone number on the website then you just text the current reading to them if you want to bring the account up to date.
Not a feature I use.

Or ring them up and ask for a smart meter
They seem to love fitting them and then you can install and app that gives you all sorts of information including the exact live usage and total costs on whatever time periods you like.

I have a smart meter but it's not smart enough to work with my supplier. Interesting though I have just had an updated statement after I sent my last reading in yesterday.

Not sure yet it seems at first glance longer than 46 days but it looks way more than my calculations..

Agreed. But that is gas and electric.
That does not tie up with the calculation I posted earlier.
1350 meter units x 16.34 p per kWh = £22.05 over 46 days plus the standing charge.
Even with 5% vat on I must have got it wrong...

16.34x1350 = 22059 pence
22059/100 = £220.59

According to my calculator

£220.59 + 5% = £231.62

I could not believe it was 3 figures just for electric. (In such a short space of time)

So I assumed it must be 22 lol calculators are not my strong point. I am better with paper but can never find a pen when I need one.

Electric is quite cheap really, I think it's something like 3p to boil a kettle.
Problem is it's also really easy to use it so it soon adds up!

This is interesting and timely I have just switched to NeonReef from Scottish Power who inherited Yorkshire Energy when it went bust, the final bill was marked A for an actual reading on the front page but upon detailed examination it was an estimated bill and 190 units (kWH's) too high.

It transpires that OFGEM will not force a supplier to correct a bill for less than 250 units which for me amounts to some £30 + VAT. so Scottish Power have some £30 of my money and I have limited recourse to get it back. NeonReef have replied to my complaint but nothing from Scottish Power other than a request to complete a customer survey!!
All this and I gave them a reading within a day of the changeover date from my 'Smart Meter' which neither of them can read. What a waste.

I would say keep a spreadsheet of your electricity consumption I have since I moved here it makes comparing suppliers much easier do not rely on the comparision sites their rounded calculations are miles out for me (I have oil cenral heating so limited electrical use for heating).

Keep asking for YOUR money. I had a similar problem when I changed from EON to Shell Energy, EON estimated my final bill although I sent final/start reading to both. I believe there is a central data base with all customer readings, but it is up to the old supplier to ensure that they enter the correct reading. I hassled both Shell Energy & EON and after 2 months EON corrected there reading and refunded an extra £9.70.
