I know, too early in the year, but SWMBO is on at me to sort out the 2 external xmas motifs we brought with us when we moved (4 years ago).
As we now live in a bungalow, with a narrow side path, normal external sockets are out - damage from lawn mower and dustbins.
So was thinking of 2 commando sockets behind the guttering - no sofit & facia, just dental brickwork, very common in Lincolnshire so I'm told - rubber cable through the gland, straight into loft under the roof tiles, into junction box, then T & E back to a digital timer, double pole fcu and then into lighting circuit.
Sockets cannot be reached from ground, step ladder needed, so this should satisfy safety requirements. Lighting circuit is rcbo'd.
Could run a direct circuit from CU but would need nearly 20m of cable + rcbo for 2 motifs connected for 6 weeks a year.
Any thoughts on safety or a better way of doing it.
