extension lead to run a 3hp compressor

thats no good, i can't connect that to the compressor or the mains

either buy the caravan lead and cut both ends off .fit a 13 amp plug and get a 13 amp trailing socket for the other end it might be cheaper unless u can buy the 2,5mm 3 core flex cheaper on its own by the meter

surely there is an off the shelf extension lead already with the 13amp plug/sockets on available so i wouldn't have to mess around chopping the caravan lead up

you buy the caravan lead ideally put a blue plug on the compressor more metal pin contact in the blue plugs and a fly lead for the other end

if you look for a 16amp extension lead on fleybay you will note they all or most seem to come up with blue plugs household plugs are only 13amp your compressor is 3 hp so it's pushing it on a 13amp plug and extension lead just makes the problem worse as you have found out

the thing is its going to be very hard to find an extension cable already constructed in length and cable size you need, so you are going to have to do a little wiring into a plug and socket

not many extension leads will have 2.5 mm cable unless you either make your own or use the caravan lead idea

all the parts ideally need to be from somewhere like screwfix, i need to go and pick them up, can't wait for stuff to be delivered off ebay because i need the compressor working for the weekend

the other point is if the caravan lead is not long enough you just buy another one and they will join together

yes there are also leads that will plug straight into that lead and your house

that's the one however it will be as simple to put a 3 pin plug on and quicker

well i have a 3hp 150l sip compressor single phase that i was using in my unit perfectly fine, had to give up my unit so the compressor is in my shed, the shed is at the bottom of the garden with no electical supply to it, i've tried the compressor using an extension lead, the compressor tries to start but then it trips the power inside the house

IS it ok when the compressor FIRST starts up?? Does it only blow when the tank is full??

what circuit are you plugging into ie kitchen downstairs ring, which ever check at the fuse box what rating breaker is on that circuit, if its low plug in elswhere

tried the extension in various places in the house and it does the same on them all
