Experimenting with brake disks

I borrowed an 'On Car' skimming machine years ago from my mate who was a technician at an Austin Rover dealership, and it did a fantastic job.
I did 3 cars while I had it, but only did the front discs on FWD cars, I didn't have the other motorised part of the device to turn the freewheeling discs.
It all looked like a very expensive piece of kit!

Quite often take the high edge and rust off with a flap disc to avoid gouging the pads.

I had a neighbour with a Granada Mk3 I used to look after. Vented discs used to be a right pain and within a couple of months of fitting new ones, he was moaning that there was judder starting.
So I got a guy to come out from Oulton Broad who would skim the discs in-situ. Remove the caliper, and bolt the compound slide on the bracket. The motor drive went directly on to the hub and skimming like that allowed for any bearing 'wobble' that was built in. Never had any disc judder after that.

I do the same things on the lathe just true it up and take the lips off they are good for another few years at least.

i was at a show back in october and they had them there, the yellow one is for cars and such while the bigger one is for lorries.
i knew at thew time the price of it but i cant remember what it was now.

i didnt really get the point of it originally as a regrind here is about €60-70 odd and i was figuring that one could buy a set of discs for much the same.
but he explained some of the discs on the fresh cars are very expensive to replace and this was a cheap option.

Your speed is way off, your tool is way off and you have Bugger all chance of getting it right on rotary table. I normally do my brake disks on the lathe but when they are too big I have fly cut them on the mill. You need a fly cutter that covers the full span of the disk and it needs to be large and ridged. I uses index tipped tools that are sharp with a high rake. Bolt to the table and then feed in only one direction to avoid the backlash. Low speed around 200rpm and very slow feed.

good god, my bad.
we will put this one down to a novice move im afraid.
i dont even know how i managed end up on this thread, i was looking up stuff on rotary tables and i think in the top of the list was this one so i got carried away and thought it was a fresh one.
and obviously i didnt see the date.
move along now, nothing to see here....
