Experimental waste oil burner, how to stop mild steel flaking?

Water cooled stainless? Be nice to get some of that heat into some water I'd imagine... Or would this cool combustion too much and leave you with a sludgy mess...?

I suspect that cooling the burn tube directly would stop it burning cleanly. But a cast iron heat exchanger on the exhaust would work quite well, I suspect

Can you increase both fuel and airflow? It seems that the flame speed (speed at which the flame can burn through the fuel/air mixture) is faster than the speed of the mixture coming out of the blast tube. Or maybe a smaller diameter blast tube would help? Could you sleeve it down?

Trying to attach pictures of my small furnace. It's very simple with a forge blower connecting to a 2" pipe that had an inlet for oil mixture with a needle valve. The oil is aimed into the centre of the pipe ending just inside the furnace. I have a propane connection near the blower to get the furnace up to heat so the oil volatiles as it hits the heat.

When my venturi burners start huffing and try and go out is because the choke is to closed with low gas pressure.
Increase pressure more air is drawn in keeping the flame stable on the burner.

If the fuel flow is increase the burn happens mostly outside the tube:

Have you tried adding a few holes around the far end of the tube? What's this going to be piped into, eventually, btw?

Talking about using stainless, i was always told 310 stainless was for use where high temperatures were present, ovens, furnaces etc.

We used to use 253ma flavour for our burner/combustion chambers, not as common as the normal varieties but more suited to high temp applications I believe. You could well be right about 310.

I have a pack of 253ma rods somewhere - hopefully they will be ok with other types of stainless as I don't work for that company any more and can't see me ever getting hold of any 253 again!

I don't think that you will stop it burning inside that tube because what you have created is similar to an brazing hearth torch, because the air and fuel both exit together it will burn as it exits the burner, if you plan on using it for some form of heating you could probably do away with that tube and make yourself a small double throw boiler to heat radiators up
