hi,
just started a mig welding course and as im not a welder by trade im looking for some experience outside the course afternoon/evening or weekend in and around the stanley Co durham area.

your best bet is to offer a local fab shop your time for free, either evenings or weekends other than that buy a welder and have a play, welcome to the forum too

I've offered my midweek days off to a local classic car restorer gratis. I said I'd make the tea, sweep up, strip paint, anything as long as I could learn on the job. He didn't take me up on the offer. Shame, I think it would have worked.

That is a shame, when we were in the family bodywork business many years ago, a young lad did the same and we said yes, he turned out to be the best paint sprayer we ever had and stayed with us for 12 years, we had to end up giving him a wage..always a down side to everything

Bet the same guy who refused you is one that will complain about people not getting off their arses to find work...keep trying and good luck

Dont worry about it, keep knocking on doors, i found getting up and going there to be more useful than phoning as its easier for a secretary to field the calls to the boss.

I too looked for experience in the race car industry and no one wanted to let me in, i started going to mallory park on wednesdays and found a chap that covered my petrol to his and lunch, youv just gotta stay positive and keep trying guys!

Lastly if they say there insurance is an issue tell them your willing to pay for your own liability insurance my friend has it to mentor in schools whilst doing her degree of all things

You have to get past the desk flunky, always to get hold of somebody in authority, the desk flunky usually has no interest in what is not their direct business.
