Expansion drums, on a budget

Hi all, I've been experimenting with some sheet metal projects for a while & trying to think of ways to bring the overall cost down. One idea I've had is to clean the mill scale off whilst the sheet is still flat, before forming it, saving the need to get the items blast cleaned.
I've done a bit of Googleing and can see that if I spend circa £700 I can buy some kind of special drum sander, but I can't justify a spend like that on an idea punt.
Does anyone have any budget friendly hacks for turning a 9" grinder into a drum sander?

What size is involved? Do you need to work with a full clean 8' x 4' sheet?

An option is to cut the parts and then leave in a vinegar bath overnight. The scale should wipe off and just need a light spray of water-displacer (version 40).

If you have space, you can make a bath from a pond liner and loose building blocks (be careful not to puncture it).

This method is cheap - a small amount of outlay to build the bath, but minimal labour invoved in the cleaning and the used stuff can go down the drain.

It is a conceptual knock off of a Makita 9741.

AFAIK, the drums are available from AliExpress for a reasonable price (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005010002995495.html).

They also sell a bolt-on kit to suit M14 spindles (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009513979349.html)

It would be wise to look at the specs. of the two machines above and see what rpm is needed. My feeling is a fixed speed 9" grinder may be too fast.

The standard one comes with a scotchbrite wheel so you would also need to buy an additional more aggresive wheel for removing mill scale.

Ask for "P&O" which is hot rolled plate that has been "Pickled & Oiled".

We use allot of 16 ga/.063" in P&O
That would be 1.58 mm ?
