Engineering shop advised against that, said they often warp again and worse

I had mine skimmed, new turbo and did 30k without issue, not dewebbed

Had mine blow twice, then got it refaced then I dewebbed it and it was fine for years until I sold the car, always thought a 5 pot one piece manifold was idiotic.

Problem is if you make any exhaust manifold more than one piece, any joints will end up leaking.

Is this where the story of people relieving themselves on BMW blocks destined for race cars comes from?

Older blokes at my place of work told me a decade or more ago about castings being left in or close to the the gents to speed things up.

We used to have our own foundry (before my time) so the older guys would use castings where you or I would go for a fabrication - our pattern shop is still going though.

I have heard BMW used to source used production blocks that had done a good few miles as material for the highly strung turbo race engines - all the movement had been done by all the heat cycles in use. They still only lasted a lap or two on full welly - but that was enough.

I've heard BMW cast F1 blocks back in the day were left outside for seasoning for a year with people peeing on them (probably an old wives tale?).

Cast manifolds sounds like a good idea to remove after 10,000 miles heat cycling then remove an surface grind again.
