Exhaust fab questions

Where do you get your exhaust parts from?
i.e flanges, im after a flange to fit my headers or is it easier to get on cut specifically?

i can get one off flanges cut no problem, just need a template or gasket

I will need a flange cut and some bends, for when I make the exhaust for my viva with cavalier 2.0seh engine

Its a 1974 range rover so doesn't need a cat for the mot.

That's what it did to me.
A quick question, my manifold is approx 2 1/2 inch, would reducing the pipe after that to 2 inch make much difference in power?

Well had to make a start on the exhaust today, even though it was white everywhere.
Made a good start, got both front pipes from manifold to silencer all tacked up.
Tomorrow it will be from the silencer back over.
Hopefully that should be easier.
Phone was flat today for the photos so ill take some tomorrow and get them posted.
Its first attempt at a stainless system so criticism is welcome.

I'm assuming you are using a Tig ??? A good tip is to use 1mm tungstens and 1mm filler rod.

Yeah using a tig, i have 1.6mm tungsten's with 1mm filler rod.
Here are some pic's,
First attempt at doing it and i think i'm doing ok.
A couple of welds and tacks and then how the front part of the system will look.
Got the back mocked up but i've tacked a bend on a 180 degrees out so will have nip the tacks and redo.
Must say i need a stool for all this welding (for sitting on!!) as it hurts back otherwise.

Always sit down when you can when tigging, its so much easier than standing.
I prefer the 1mm tungstens as I like small beads as all my systems get polished.

Also 316L is nicer to weld. Looks like your doing very well

I'm picking up a stool tomorrow for doing it.
As for the welds, its a off road car so am not that bothered about it been polished.
If i polished it up it would look better than the rest of the car!!

whats the reason for all the slip joints?

looks good though. what sort of price per meter have you paid for the tube? is it 1.5mm thick?

Its just the way they supplied it to be honest, but it has made it easier for putting together as i don't have a exhaust to compare it with.
Its about £33 a metre plus postage and packing.
That is for 2.5"

If it were me those slip joints would have had some heldtite on them to stick 'em together and it'd be right

Not kidding, I build that manifold for less than 2 metres of tube at those rates
