Here you can see that the laser lens is in line with the blade and about 35mm in front. If the little metal tab hanging down is meant to be a shield it doesn't work well enough.

If I take it back to Screwfix they will only give me another one with the same problem. I don't really want a refund as, apart from this, it's quite a nice saw for the money and does what I need. I have complained to Evolution and will wait to see what they offer.

Is it just me or does that blade look absolutely knackered. is that the blade you've been sawing steel with ?
Edit, is it actually a mild steel cutting blade and the tips meant to look like that ?

Laser, what laser, never seen one on mine, and I have two, a small one and the big raptor.
They're weird to use at first. Run slower than a comparable sized "normal" wood chop saw. Reminds me of a grinder more than a saw. No sparks just a barrage of hot flying chips coming at you. Goggles a must and a pair of gauntlets.
