really send it back mate, what has been the problem with it? I would get the evo42 if i was to get an evo for £200 it is hard to beat.

my prefrence would be a 240V drill for ease of use so I think when I get paid next week I will treat myself

for a exhaust downpipe on a scooter.

just picked up a job lot of cutters of ebay. 12 in all of various sizes .

hey i just brought a set of cutters like that too! it will do 3mm no problem i am sure easy at 28mm let me know how u rate it hurry up!

Evo are garbage, the Rotabroach is night and day difference. More money, but worth it.

Thin plate and large diameter holes are bad news for mag drills. Quite often won't grip properly on thin materials and skid about when they start the cut. Be ready for it.

I can almost guarantee you won't be disappointed with the Rotabroach. The Evo looks cheap and plastic to me, though I'll admit that the price for a 'recon' is attractive! But I'd go with the Rota having had one for a while, it's brilliant and I expect it to be working just the same in 15 years time.

3mm thick steel? The Rota doesn't care when drilling a 30mm hole through 20mm thick steel! But as Welderpaul says mag drills aren't good on thin metal, be careful.

Yeah, I'm sure there was a mention in the book that came with mine (rotabroach element 40) about it's "grip" reducing below 6mm thicknesses.

I have mine stuck to a stand made from 10mm steel, and clamp the work down to that, if I'm doing anything small/tricky/thin.

The new models won't switch on unless they have enough grip. Pain in the rear on some small beams where the web is less than 6mm.

its not something im going to use everyday, its the once in a blue moon tool for me
when you need a large hole cut....

i plan to stick the cutter to some 12mm or thicker plate and clamp the 3mm down infront of it
so i can cut the hole.
then once i got the 28mm hole in it for the downpipe
i can mark out the shape and plasma it out, then drill the 3 mounting holes.

Sound like that may possibly add to reliability in the future. Not much to go wrong with them at the moment a no volt switch, relay, push buttons and a rectifier for magnet. Wonder how they are doing the sensing, magnet draw current?

Ok...? It's brilliant.
I don't have much mag drill experience but have used the Rota and borrowed one from a chap who runs a fabrication firm (can't remember the make but he doesn't buy junk) and can certainly say the Rota leaves me wanting nothing!

ive an evolution saw . its ok but wouldnt have a drill . we have two magdrills .cant remember the brand but both have hitachi drills in them .one ive had since 1995 n has been thrashed n abused n battered and drilled millions of holes . cant fault them but as paul says watch out on thin or uneven surfaces as they will bite

Still use our evolution mag drill. It is a little more plastic then the Jei we had but we can use a regular chuck on the evo as it had much longer travel/height adjustment. For the money its excellent.

The Rota comes with a chuck for ordinary bits though I find it a faff swapping it. The bottle for cutting fluid that comes with it is well worth having.

I may be spending the extra 150 quid then and geting the panther over the evo after reading all your comments, I have a nice small section off a rsj that i want to make a wee stand for it from too

i had a hitachi before for years, a great drill, the evo the magnet packed in after a couple of weeks, got that sorted then the start switch packed in, when bypassing the switch every wire I touched feel out of where it was supposed to be, all loose! and when buying was told the 28 was the best they made and not touch the bigger one

i'd allways g rotabroach after haveing an evolution and killing it repeatedly.

some of the new ones wont turn on unless they are o nengough metal right twerp on small beam or 3mm sheet but if you chuck a bit of 6mm flat behind that cures that problem, the magnet will grab it and it helps the mag drill grip better as well
