Bee's Wax mix it with Turpentine and brush it on bare metal.

I'm going to try that, and a mix with some lanolin added. Aussies can buy lanolin cheaply by the gallon, but here it's bloody expensive, which is ridiculous as there are millions of sheep in the UK and Ireland and farmers are perpetually moaning about how the market for wool has tanked.
Well, somebody's making a bloody good profit out of woollen insulation and lanolin, that's for sure.

I advertised some wire rope lube on here recently, the advert has dropped off the page I think. It's still available if anyone wants it.

I must have missed that, I was after some 'wire rope & open gear lubricant' to grease the open back gears on my pillar drill. Used to use a lot of it years ago, but couldn't find any to buy locally a few months ago.
