At my GP's today to have a nurse do a 'wound review', she asked me if I would like to have jab to protect me against 23 types of pneumonia. Seeing some hesitancy, she commented that with winter coming, and with the pandemic, that a man of my age would do well to accept it, which I then did. Don't anyone accuse me of being in the "tin hat" brigade! The rest of you seniors have been warned.

My surgery offers it to all over 65. I've had mine.
Have you had your AAA ultrasound scan? Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. Should be offered to all males over 65. Mine was 14mm, normal, discharged from the scheme.

I had that scan and was safe. Flu jabs just announced here not heard of the Pneumonia one.

The way its going we will all be walking around like my friend here...permanent needles for everything from a pimple to triple heart bypass vaccination ...think i will just let the tools i was born with guard and protect me thanks..

well they're only trying to keep you alive rather than dying, and its not like they cost you, so either take then or don't, cant see what the fuss is about.

My aging parents (88 & 89) went this week and had the Pneumonia jab in question.

They are booked in for the normal Flu jab next week.


Mum reckons she feels like a "pin cushion" the about of needles being offered to her.

Dad reckons the girl who gave him the jab - was a pretty young shapely thing.

The funny thing is: On a hot day they walked the one mile to the doctors - they put sun hats on took a bottle of water and walked there and back. Dad still drives. But mother fancied a walk. They arrived a bit too early - Mum allowed a bit too much time (she reckoned they did the one mile in slightly under 35mins). On the way back they fed the ducks in the river with some stale bread she forced Dad to carry.

I think a lot of people forget that flu really isn't all that common, but if you do get it, it's really quite nasty even for a healthy person. Last time I had it was years ago, and I still remember the fever induced hallucinations I had. I can only imagine its worse for older folk, and when I get into my 50s I'll probably get the flu shot too.
As opposed to man flu, which is really common and also very serious...

Last time I had it was years ago, and I still remember the fever induced hallucinations I had. I can only imagine its worse for older folk, and when I get into my 50s I'll probably get the flu shot too.

You are right - I am 54 and I have only had the full on flu "sweating in bed" once in my life.

It is not nice at all - but as you say it is not that common at all...

Flu is something totally different as its a money spinner and nothing else, since its been going they have never got the correct strains and doctors forget to tell you they get them for free from the NHS and still get paid £20 for every flu jab they give, hence why they try getting you in for one, do the maths, £20 per jab at 5 minutes per jab, 12 jabs per hour and they earn £240 per hour; eight hour day with 1.5 hours out for breaks and 6.5 hours at £240 per hour =£1300 per day minus the nurses wages.

Flu jab is a (very) educated guess as to which strains are going to be around this flu season - they have to decide in advance when they get the vaccine manufactured. So no “they” don’t always get it right but, generally they do - if you don’t want the jab don’t have it but I think to spread misinformation around is not helpful.

Ive had proper flu once, I was as strong as an ox in those days, can see how it kills people who are not.

I also believe I had covid early in the pandemic

As for jabs, its everyone's choice but having a wife who worked on a covid positive ward at the height of the pandemic, well the storied she told me should make anyone consider their choices carefully

Apparently Astra Zenica has developed a vaccine that immune compremised people like me who can't currently have a jab will be covered. It's not readily available yet but I live in hope

i remember having man flu, ebola, yellow fever and bubonic plauge all at once, strangley none of my "friends" belived me, i it was closed but i managed to get over it.

As for what they do to you if you get an appointment, everything you can get them too would seem to be the best approach. Because christ knows when you'll get through the door again!
