I got it off G Jones. But I also got another from Eutectic for the company i'm contracting to at the mo, at last years price. I asked nicely and pointed them to this thread. They also offered me the same 5 for 4 deal.

Do you have problems opening/downloading pdf's Steve? We had trouble at work - they are on PC's with explorer. Maybe it's a setting thing.

Can't understand why they are giving em away! Very much doubt they need the cash (you seen the price of their rods!), suspect more to do with new (yet more ) EU legislation coming in that perhaps that model will not comply with. Still, at that price I'm tempted to buy a shed load & maybe put together a "TIG starter package", what you reckon? It really is top notch kit.

And yes, always having bleedin PC problems! The last one I had gave me so much grief in the end I stormed into the nearest PC World (box-movers I know ) & demanded to take the very best laptop they had NOW! Second screen later (clouted first one in frustration!) & this bleeders playin up!!

I have a feeling the ultramax2 is discontinued. I got the current Eutectic catalogue and it's not in there. You legislation hunch may be on the mark.

Otherwise, if there's a problem with the set, spec wise, it'll be that the OCV is 54v, and may not be enough to run cellulosic rods, which makes it useless to the stovers. I shall try it out on some 6011's Runnach gave me.

I'm sure you, of all people could get a deal with them. Neil Cund, logistics manager, would be your man. I don't know how much you'd make from putting a tig package together (but i'm sure you do). Why not give it a go?

It'd obviously be a basic scratch TIG package but that would do for most lads on here & they would be getting premium quality kit that will last years... save them throwing their hard earned away on the eBay Chinese stuff.

It is lift tig (so a bit scratchy), and pulse. Try getting those on ebay. Your problem would be competing with those Rehmann units, which sell for as little as £100, and lets face it, for diy users, are perfectly good.

The intended market for the Eutectic set, i'd have thought, was pro welders. The set and leads weight less than just the leads on my Lincoln

This whole debate about weather its old technology is baffling me. I know from when I worked at Fronius, they had the Transpocket range, which is their very good range of mma inverters, however they had 2 groups within this family. The Transpocket 1400 + 1400mv (110/230) and then the Transpocket 1500 (and then varying types of the 1500, basic mma, basic mma with lift tig, and then with lift tig and the pulse facitility and comfort stop)

Although the 1500 and the 1400 were in the same box etc, the 1500 was a completely new/different inverter design compared to the 1400. The 1400 was by Fronius standards quite old hat and they was talking about replacing it even as far back as 6-7 yrs ago.

I would assume that they have finally got round to bringing the 1400 into line with the rest of the Transpocket family (also maybe the pcb's don't conform to the new ROHE standards) and have sold all of the old stock to Eutectic.

Thats all fine and understandable, but the 1500 was the only one capable of the tig/pulse facility. Thats the only thing I don't get.

Oh well, its still a cracking buy for that price, I bet TPS-Fronius in the UK ain't happy that there selling it so cheap!

Absoloutely no comparison Si. The "German quality" Rehman should in fact be sued by Trading Standards for mis-representation of goods... they are as German as a Spitfire!
The true German (Austrian) machine will far outlast but, I get your point, £100 or £300 for an occasional use machine.

Trading Standards and the EU in general ain't interested in protecting our (European) interests. They EC mark is not doing anything to protect us... because a lot of Chinese companies are happy to write, whatever Duty cycles & Safety conformities on the data plate that the importers want. Regardless of weather its true or not.

If a European manufacturer lied about important safety info like that or produced machines that didn't conform to the new ROHE and WEEE directives the EU would be down on them like a tonne of bricks (metric tonne of course) :S

There were some 1400mv transpockets knocking round really cheep about £200 just before christmas, I was very tempted to buy myself a spare at that money, but couldnt really see the need for another inverter...

Hi everyone - I am just recovering from a real nasty dose of cold / flu - so have not been paying much attention...
I still have 2 of these sets available - the deal goes like this.
The single unit offer was £275 + vat - which comes out at £323.12 + carriage (not sure what they were charging for single unit...
So will take a guess at £330 all in for a single unit.
This lot cost me best part of £1300 inc vat - which works out at £260 each.
Each unit costs best part of £20 to post Special Delivery - which is insured for up to £500.
If you pay by Paypal - it costs me an extra £10 in Paypal fees.
So - if you want one of the 2 I have left - it will cost a Total of £290 delivered and paid through Paypal - or cheaper picked up - or paid by cheque - (which I would want to wait for clearance on.)
I'm not making any profit on these - just sharing the savings (about £40) among those that have one.
I have yet to decide what Tig torch and regulator / gas setup I want - and will be contacting the relevant people in due course

Yes - will be looking at purchasing the relevant stuff - just gotta decide what / where about the Gas - as Gasman has no supplier local - may have to make a trip as and when (just need to work out the economics of it when I get a minute)
In the meantime I still have one unit left - is there anyone still wanting one of these ?
I could do with shifting this to finance the other stuff - but will hold off putting it on "The Auction Site" for a few days - so if there's anyone wants one - let me know ASAP

The product flyer mentions generator compatability - I guess that would cover it ?

Yes, it is generator-compatible, which means it is able to cope with non-sinusoidal input or fluctuations in the supply voltage without blowing a fuse or going bang.

From the manual, at 100A it needs 4.6kVA, at 140A it needs 6.9kVA.
I reckon a 5kVA genny will be a bit on the small side.
