Euro torch conversion help.

Hi everyone this is my first post and I'm looking forward to reading through the forum and learning new things.

Anyway I have a SIP migmate 105 and I would really like to convert it with a euro torch now I'm just wondering if anyone on here has done it and what torch they used and do you need to put in a gas solenoid?

I was looking at using the MB15 or the MB25 torch with a 4meter lead. I use 0.6mm wire because the majority of my work is done on thin sheet.
Now with me using such thin wire would I have any feed problems with the torch being so long?

Any information would be a massive help.

With that long a torch, look at getting a 0.6mm liner.

You will need a gas solenoid for most small MIGs. Easiest to tell is if it has a valve in the torch.

I had a 4M torch on my Clarke. Switching to a smaller liner helped the feed considerably. The better torch worked better than the short torch it came with.

go for a 3m MB 15 torch. ebay sell kists with the torch connector and solenoid.

you need to find where to connect the gas solenoid, usually a 240 supply activated by the trigger, then fix the connector and plumb in the new gas line via the solenoid. The power feeb need to be fixed to the connector. the two trigger feeds go to the power feed onb the connector anf the other to the original trigger.

Go with a 3 metre torch, the tiny drive motor in the SIP will really struggle on anything longer.

ah ha... Now there's a good tip, just looking into the MB15 Binzel torch / lead for my SIP, was thinking that the 4 m would be better for me, then I don't have to move the mig around.... never thought about the extra resistance for motor for the wire...

time for a rethink...

Think a good welder trolly that's VERY maneuverable would be a better bet than a 4mt torch with 0.6 I did upgrade to a 4mt one but do find with 0.6 you do get a bit of spring back/forward from the amount of wire in the 4mt's. Maybe go for making a low slung trolly with three wheels (caster right at front) for the maneuverability and don't pull the trolly by the torch !!

Did you get a 0.6mm liner for the torch? That will greatly reduce the "springiness" of the wire.

Don't think I have changed it yet so is as it came. I think that was with the 0.6 to 0.9 type. I did expect some of this. Due to position of car not so easy to use a 3mt one up untill recently (now working on other side of car) so will have to give my 3mt one a try on current welder.

I would save your money. It'll cost you the thick end of £100 to convert to a euro-torch and the machine's not worth that job lot.
