Euro cylinders

There are some on ebay starting at around £10. Any difference to these and the expensive ones?

My worry is, how the hell do you get them out if you lose the keys?

Lock smith will still get them out. It's just to stop the scrotes getting in to easily

Just seen this thread, checked my front and back doors and was shocked to find that both locks protrude around 10mm.

It's a council house, but I thinks I'll be replacing the cylinders ASAP

recently changed mine as i forgot all about it. however once the lock started playing up i remembered! i got two ABS locks keyed alike very happy with them. also its possible to get a whole host of other locks with some key including padlocks so plan to slowly change frequent use locks such as trailer hitch to be on same key

Nice videos on youtube of how easy it is to get into euro lock doors with a 99p set of pliers and a screwdriver in 30 seconds!
Thats when I upgraded mine to yale ones

The biggest problem with the cheaper locks is not being snapped etc, its being bumped to open (search on it) no need for pliers or any tooling other than a home made key and people can walk up to the door an open it without doing any damage or leaving marks. Some are prepared to go in through the front door in broad daylight as people assume they have been given a key.

The more expensive ocks should force people to snap them and they take a bit longer to do, however, people can still get in easily with a screwdrive and a hammer to snap both parts of the anti-snap lock (there is also a video on youtube for one of the Milenco locks) but the plan is to make the house a harder target than next door, not to stop people totally!

Having a dog helps as well. Our neighbours had better security on their house than us but no dog. The s**ts tried to break into their house as our dog makes a hell of a racket if some one comes in the gate let alone tries to break in.
I have geese round by the workshop as well which gives a good indication if someone is poking about.
Not that I am suggesting everyone should get a flock of geese or even a dog but if you are toying with the idea of getting a dog it's another tick in the plus column.

The Police round here use lock snappers when they get bored of bouncing the Enforcer off the UPVC door. If the lock doesn't protrude they just lever the escutcheon plate off anyway.

In the course of work I have to gain access to properties on a reasonably regular basis and have often been surprised at the amount of externally beaded double glazing that is still about, the speed you can get through that is worrying.
