Ethernet switch?

I think I need an ethernet switch so I can connect the TV, PS4, WIFI up.
I've run cat5e cable from various locations to a central point in the house and one from the WiFi router to the central point. Is an ethernet switch what I need?
I've found a Netgear one on ebay, is this what I need?

Yes that switch will do the job, I've used those little netgear switches a few times for the same purpose.

As already mentioned, a switch will do what you need and it is just a matter of plugging it in.

I don't know what your current WiFi setup is but a wired connection is likely to be a lot better. Be aware though that the sum of all the traffic through the switch will be limited to 1 Gbps in each direction. Even so, it would take some serious video streaming to the TV and a lot of WiFi traffic to interfere with a game on the PS4. Obviously also depends on the speed of your Internet connection.

If some devices are close to the router, some load could be unloaded to it.

It is unlikely, but if you need additional bandwidth, you can run a second Ethernet cable from the router to the PS4 or to a second switch.

Some idiot when they built our bungalow, put the BT master socket in the loft and 5 room sockets run from that - multi core, not normal BT extension cable - ALL socket cables replaced with cat5. Only 4 outlets on BT superhub, but don't need computer in bedroom.

A real pain when you need to hard reboot the hub, but at least it's next to the loft trap door.

Bloody Ebay RJ45 crimping tool!
Just spent 3 hours trying to get a link between the router and the boys room via a junction in the office, the cheap Chinese crap RJ45 kit is virtually useless and a pack of Male to Male connections were no good either
Ended up bending the tangs in the connector to get it to work, boy is now happy with 20 megaponies or whatever it's called at the Playstation!
I've yet to get the ethernet switch which will replace the crap connector.
Just another question though, will the switch run more that one piece of equipment at once?

I might just need a beer after all that...

the switch will run multi connections at the same time

it just shares between each of them

it'll happly run all 8 connections at once, if you need more you can daisy chain switches with a cat5 cable between them :-)

when you poke the wires in the stick out the back, so you can check they're in the right order (and pull them in tight)

the crimp tool cuts the extra wire off

used the old type for years, much prefer this tyme, much easier to check they're in right, and saves the frustration of making a mistake :-)
