I think it would work out cheaper buying a Preval sprayer and buying some Lechler epoxy and thinners.

Especially if the repairs are being done over a long period of time.

Also you could use the epoxy for brushing or rollering.

Well the thick stuff as you say is epoxy mastic 121 from rust.co.uk its for chassis parts etc , as for body work I have been using there epoxy 421

Lechler or HB Body epoxies lay down a lot better than the 421 and you can flat next day rather than a few days later. Rustbuster does seem to have brought his prices down a bit though since I last looked.

It mixes 2-1 so 3 litres mixed would be £45 which would do most of a mini

Rather than using spray tins for small amounts I would use an air brush. Although my gravity touch up gun will operate with a very small mixed quantity anyway.

If your gonna use a small gun you will need more coats.

cant see you getting much epoxy through an airbrush tbh, maybe a mini gun but then the guy is saying he cant afford all the gear at the moment

those standox cans i linked to are very good , one or two cans would do the bay no bother , possibly some cheaper sellers too i just linked to what popped up

The big problem with aerosols is they actually contain very little paint !!! It's mostly thinner, you would get a much better coating with a spraygun or roller.
£17 for an aerosol of Epoxy is ridiculous in my opinion !!!

An air brush is cheap and you can run it from a car tyre as the air reservoir.

While an airbrush would be great for a tiny touch in, painting an engine bay with one would be a problem. You would be there for hours in total.

So next question, Is there any guides to what kind of compreesor I would need to buy to run a spray gun for just applying epoxy/primer and some stonechip?

For painting an area at a time if you are on a budget a 25 litre hobby compressor will do the job, especially using a small gravity gun. I've been doing quite a lot on a car in a garage with no power recently using one running from a generator.

The first job I did was the whole underbonnet area, no problems, etch, silver base and clear. A total of 5 or 6 coats in one session.
I have since also done other areas that needed stonechip and also had no problems.
