I'm not 100 percent sure what the name of it is, but think it's gs3i or something like that. And it's spot on as good as Lincoln supra.

i have been using air liquide weldline g3sl1 0.8 with no issues, but my local supplier does not stock it..only the esab wire.

i have found this: weldline sg2 but anyone know the difference between g3sl1 and sg2?

G3Si1 is the EN 440 now ISO 14341 designation for a solid wire with around 420MPa minimum yield, 1.3-1.6% Mn.

SG2 is the old DIN 8559 classification for a GMAW.

An SG2 is basically a G3Si1.

What machine have you got and what are you welding?

an old miller 180a....just making some frames out of box section

My normal wire. To be honest if talking about solid wire there ain't a heap of difference but I had a couple of rolls of Lincoln a bit Back and it just wasn't as smooth feeding through. My machine (no doubt others will find the reverse) .
I also prefer the spool build, it's easier to handle into a machine and has far more tie off spots when swapping wires .

BTW I have zero connection to Esab

Overpriced, that stuff is wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole. At least buy Lincoln stuff or something like Weldline by Oerlikon/SAF

The guy says it is Lincoln though.

The other lincoln wires are made in the UK

Oh heck we have heard tell of branding by this company from a prominent member and ex employee .
More than half the product on the globe has Chinese bits - very much including prominent welding plant manufacturing

well i have tried the boc wire and i can not tell the difference between this and the weldine wire..but i was welding 4mm box section..it may be a different story on thin metal. so neither over the moon or un-happy with it....but will prob order weldline again next time.
ps.. it cost me £27.00 incl vat
