Esab eyetec 2

After getting through a couple of speedglas masks, I thought I'd have a change and go for an esab. The speedglas masks were battery powered and switched off when not used but this stays on. The speedglas spent it's life hung on a hook facing the light over the bench. I was wondering, if I hang this mask on the same hook, it will be constantly darkened (when the light is on). Would this have any long term effect on the mask?

I'm no expert but I wouldn't have thought so as the ultraviolet spectrum in normal light shouldn't be strong enough to activate an auto darkening mask.

I have an eyetech 2. It only darkens while welding. I leave it near the window while not welding to prolong the life of the batteries.

This does darken when I look at the light. Infact, it darkens when I look at the tv through it across the room.

That's weird. What's your sensitivity set to? I've got mine on the yellow dot which seems normal.

Hi Malcolm, that's what mine is set to. Sat in the living room last night, I was looking at the dimmed celing light and it darkened. If a bright picture comes on tv it darkens. I've moved the hanger in the garage so it's not inline with the light so that shouldn't be a problem but I was wondering, if it stays dark, would it shorten the life?
