Evening all - newbie here!

Whilst I was Googling today, I came across this forum, and this thread http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=6439

I have one of these welders, which I bought new in the late 80's/early 90's, and it has been an absolutely brilliant bit of kit. At the time I was a mobile mechanic and for the money (£500 ish if memory serves) I could have bought a much more powerful 'lesser' machine, but I am so glad that I chose the ESAB. It has NEVER given me any grief.

The problem is that the contact tip is very worn now and is in dire need of replacement, but as was stated in the original thread, the torch is now obsolete and spares are as rare as rocking horse sh1t!

In the original thread a guy called Frankie Boy mentioned that some sort of conversion kit is available. Does anyone know anything about this? Does it allow binzel type contact tips to be fitted?

Failing that, I would be happy to change the torch, or even the complete hose/torch assembly. Is this a feasible conversion?

I also have a miggy 125. Had it since the 80's Unforutantely, the liner and gun are shot. I ggogled it and came up with this thread

Robert, Im not sure if these guys here will ship to the US (I'm sure they will tell you in a minute!), but I can vouch for the quality of the converter. It's absolutely 100%! It must have taken all of 5 minutes to fit and it works a real treat. I bought a binzel gun and hose at the same time and it really has transformed the machine - it feels like a brand new one again!

In my opinion it has been money very well spent. The old ESAB Miggy's are great little machines and with this conversion it has gives it a whole new lease of life.

Go for it I say!

You might post some picts of the gun and where it connects to the feeder. There are generic replacement guns for small MIGS.

Eurotorch is not very common on this side of the pond. Many brand-specific ones although Tweco is a common standard on older machines.

Well it looks like this thread is dead but I'm going to update anyway.
I found a gun from Tragaskiss and they even had an adapter listed for the Miggy 125. Unfourtunatley, when I had my local supplier call for pricing, the Miggy 125 adapter was obsolete. They said thay might of had a couple of adapters may have worked bfore he got disconnected on the phone but the price was still going to be aound $400 when all is done. that's too much for me. For a couple of hundred more I can get a Miller 140 or settle for the retail version in the Hobart 140 for about the price it would cost to fix the Miggy.

I will miss the Miggy though. It was a faithful machine for 30 years. If anyone in the Philadelphia area wants it, let me know, i'd rather see it used for parts than junked.

Well it seems a great shame to scrap the little ESAB. Mine I still going strong with the new adapter. Did you contact Steve at the forum shop? He sent mine within a couple of days and I've not looked back. It only took about 5 minutes to fit and it's been a pleasure to use ever since.
I can't imagine that the postage to the US would be so bad for a small item like that? If you like I will buy one and send it over to you! Surely it's worth saving the machine? Let me know...

If you want to keep the ESAB going, I would suggest that you get the adapter, a Euro torch, a couple of packs of tips, and maybe a spare shroud or two. Barring any physical damage I see no reason why it should not last you another 30 years or so!

yea, if you can give me a brand name and model number of the torch and hose, maybe i can cross reference it. If you go to the link i posted, you can see that there are a lot of choices, who knows which is the right one?

Binzel and Tweco are the two old brands of torches; at least back to the early '70s.

The brands still exist but they are copied often. So, you see "Tweco-style" or "Binzel-style" torches. Users tend to prefer one style over the other.

Most small welders have clones of the Tweco MiniMIG torch (Clarke is one.)

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. i'm going to see if i can cross reference to something here in the states when i have the time. It's hard because I've been working 10 to 12 hour days and by the time i get home, most places are closed. I'll let you know how I make out.

Well it seems that everyone here in the US has something that **might** work but nothing definitive So yea, If you can get in touch with Steve from Weldequipe, that would be great. this is my last shot before junking it.
Note: I imagine that there is some kind of export law that might prevent him from shipping it to me.
